A path worth choosing is a journey worth taking

Set in a fantastical reimagining of 1868 Japan, Shadow of the Road is a story-driven tactical RPG centered on a group of travellers. Their journey takes them through a war-torn nation of Nippon, where political upheaval is only part of the danger: yōkai and other supernatural forces bring an ancient and unpredictable presence into a world already struggling.

In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Mythic power allows characters to transcend what they were. Choosing a Mythic Path is more than a matter of gaining new abilities, it's a decision about the character’s identity and their place in the world. Whether aligned with a path of Angel, Demon, Lich, Trickster, or other powerful being - each one offers a different answer to the question: what will you make of yourself, when the impossible is placed in your hands?

Shadow of the Road slightly differs in its approach to the supernatural. The yōkai of Nippon are not, unlike the demons of the Worldwound, one united faction - nor are they all enemies waiting to be defeated. They are spirits, supernatural beings with their own natures, motives, and ways of seeing the mortal world. By harnessing their power, Satoru, Akira, and their companions can draw on potent forces to overcome adversity.

But power comes with ties. The yōkai a character channels reflects their personality: aside from influencing their abilities, it reveals something about the path they are treading. And, as the party grows stronger, they must also decide what kind of relationship they are willing to form with the supernatural.

But perhaps the strongest connection lies in the characters themselves - all of the companions in your party are shaped not only by the world around them, but by the choices they make when that world changes from how they knew it.
