Dev update
Hey everyone,
I will keep this dev update short and sweet. While work on the game is progressing nicely despite the pandemic (as discussed in the recent Roadmap post), today I want to show you in which direction we are taking the arenas. As some of you already know from the pre-alpha prototype tests, in Hellcard combat takes place on arenas. The prototype used the procedural map generation system from the Book of Demons and it worked well enough. While that system can generate a vast number of different rooms from preset tiles after a while they would all look kinda "sameish".
This is why for Hellcard we are exploring what we couldn't do for Book of Demons: unique maps for arenas with procedurally added elements. Consider this early concept of one such map:
You might notice that this concept is not isometric - this is because it's just, well, a concept. The final artwork will be perspective correct. This approach requires a lot more work but we think it will be well worth the effort. What do you think?
As always, stay safe in paper dungeons ːpaperheartː
