Publisher Announcement

Hey folks!

We promised some exciting news to come soon, and it’s time to announce something that the team has been really excited about for a couple weeks now. We’ve signed with a publisher, and Freedom Games will now be publishing Dark Deity (https://freedom.gg). This was not a decision we took lightly, but Freedom really impressed us with their dedication to our vision. This takes a lot of the business-side pressure of game development off our backs so we can focus on finishing up Dark Deity and making it the best it can be.

We’d been skeptical of the publishing route, but the more we spoke with publishers and learned about the process the more we realized it was a good fit. We feel that we’ve built a game that deserves a better business-side team than what we have the bandwidth to offer internally, and Freedom will be helping us with a slew of important things, like managing our store pages and any console release process, as well as marketing, PR, and advertising the game. We’d been happy to tackle those things solo before now, but it really wasn’t doing Dark Deity the justice we feel it deserves.

I realize this may raise a red flag for some who have heard publisher horror stories, with some studios being stripped of creative control or forced into arbitrary restrictions. I want to assure you that we were extremely careful when considering publishing partners, and part of what makes Freedom such a good fit is that they aren’t looking to change our vision at all. We retain full creative control, which is obviously a big part of their identity as a publisher. They’ve already been incredibly helpful, and they’re dedicated to helping us bring Dark Deity to its full potential, which I think is something we can all get excited about. We want to keep making games for a long time, and this is a huge step towards realizing that future.

As always, thank you all for supporting us and being a part of this process. You make every hour we spend developing this game immeasurably better. It’s hammy, but it’s true. We really do appreciate having you stand with us on this journey.
