Desktop+ v.3.6.1 Beta
This is an update for the beta branch of Desktop+.
New:
- Added setting to adjust menu alignment of the Overlay Bar This is mainly to address the SteamVR dashboard being always on top when streaming to a Steam Frame, covering the Overlay Bar menus. This defaults to bottom-aligned menus when using a Steam Frame, but anyone can adjust this to personal preference. It's an advanced setting (hidden by default).
That being said, if the situation changes, this might be removed again.
- Added setting to adjust GPU priority for Desktop+ In general this only changes things if you're GPU-bound. What value makes sense depends on your objective. In a regular VR game you probably want it lower, but for flatscreen games without frame limit you might want Desktop+ to have more chances to render the screen capture. Or just leave it at Normal. This is also an advanced setting.
Changed:
-
Moved Overlay Bar position out of the way of the dashboard grab handle This adjustment had been avoided for a long time, but with dashboard tool-tips getting stuck and clipping into the Overlay Bar it's likely better to leave the gap instead.
-
Adjusted default keyboard position
-
Improved handling of scenarios where Desktop Duplication is unavailable
Fixed:
- Fixed Desktop Duplication flickering when an application is using exclusive fullscreen mode
Desktop+ and Steam Frame
The Steam Frame is finally available. To some. If you're lucky. I do not have a Steam Frame as of now.
Running Desktop+ on Steam Frame standalone is not supported. It went through Steam Frame Standalone Compatibility Review with an "Unsupported" result. Will this change in the future? Who knows, but definitely not without having a device to take look for myself. However, it would be closer to a full-blown port. Desktop+ is very much a Windows application and Proton does not help with all the ways it interacts with the desktop environment.
Streaming use works of course. Though there still might be unforeseen issues. Please report anything you come across. As an example, overlay intersection masks appear to not work. Parts of the Desktop+ interface with dynamic sizes use them to cut down the area that takes laser pointer hits. Though this needs to be fixed on SteamVR's end. You will be able to point at some seemingly blank space, but hopefully it still works otherwise.
