We are ramping up toward release and there is a lot to show you. First up, the world of Sota7, and how it is laid out. This is the first in a series of posts taking you deeper into the planet before you get there yourself. 

SOTA7 FIELD SURVEY LOG: ZONE CLASSIFICATION

*Compiled from initial reconnaissance. Subject to revision as exploration continues.

*Sota7 is not one environment. It is many, layered and distinct environments, each presenting its own conditions and demands. For the purpose of documentation and mission planning, the planet has been divided into four primary zones. What follows is a working overview of each, drawn from early field observation.

The Valley

Classification:* Low risk. Recommended for initial orientation.*

The Valley is where familiarity begins. Not because it lacks complexity, but because its complexity presents itself gently. Marshland, groves and dense forest make up the bulk of the terrain here.

• The ecosystem is rich and readable. Plant and animal life are present in abundance, and most species encountered in this zone appear more curious than aggressive.

• Water features are common. Shallow waterways, branching channels, and ground-level nesting sites shape how you move through the environment.

• Vegetation is varied but approachable, with forested areas offering natural shelter and marshy sections providing access to species found nowhere else on Sota7.

• This is where observation habits form. The Valley rewards patience and methodical documentation. Everything learned here will carry weight later.

The Valley teaches you, if you are willing to listen.

The Headlands

Classification:* Moderate to high risk. Proceed with preparation.*

Beyond the relative calm of the Valley, the terrain changes character. The Headlands are defined by stone formations, constructed remnants and an ecology that has had longer to develop its edges. The environment is navigable, but it asks more of the researcher.

• Predatory fauna are more present here, and more assertive. Situational awareness becomes a requirement rather than a precaution.

• The flora becomes more exotic as you move deeper into this zone. Species here do not share the same readable quality as those in the Valley. They require closer study.

• The landscape shifts in structure throughout. Elevation changes, canyon passages and open terrain alternate in ways that affect both navigation and field work.

• Points of constructed interest suggest this world has a history worth investigating. These locations reward exploration beyond their surface appearance.

The Headlands represent the bulk of Sota7's accessible surface area. Most of the planet's research yield lives here, alongside most of its risk.

The Pass

Classification:* High risk. Entry recommended only with prior zone experience.*

The Pass is the least understood section of Sota7 documented so far. It is smaller in area than the zones that precede it, but denser, and less willing to give itself up quickly.

• The species present here are not found in comparable numbers elsewhere. What exists in The Pass appears to have adapted specifically to its conditions.

• The environment does not ease you in. Researchers entering this zone should expect the full weight of what Sota7 is capable of.

• Early reconnaissance suggests that what can be learned here carries significant implications for the broader mission. The specifics are still being established.

The Pass is not a place to start. It is a place you work toward.

The Aquatic Zone

Classification:* Under active survey.*

Sota7 has water, and that water has its own ecology. The aquatic zone exists where the land zones connect across coastal and underwater crossings, and in at least one fully submerged environment that has been located but not yet comprehensively mapped.

• Shoreline and coastal areas link the three land zones, and the life found in these transitional spaces reflects influences from the biomes alongside them.

• The underwater environment presents conditions that surface-based observation cannot fully account for. What lives there, and how it relates to the broader ecosystem, remains an open line of inquiry.

• Documentation of this zone is ongoing. Some parts of Sota7 reveal themselves on their own schedule.

This survey serves as a starting point, with each of the three primary zones to be explored in greater detail in upcoming posts, beginning with The Valley. The world of Sota7 is far too expansive to be contained within a single document, and we’re excited to continue sharing its evolution with you as we shape and refine the game.
