Update v0.12.6 - Simplified Chinese, Performance & Graphics
Hey everyone, I was planning to push out a small update to get Simplified Chinese localization out but decided to include some performance and graphical enhancements that I've been working on for the 1.0 release as well. Ended up being a pretty big update with a bunch of improvements that hopefully improve the experience for everyone. Overall performance and frame rate should be a bit higher. Hope you enjoy!
Fixes:
-
Completely reworked step-up logic to allow the character to clear smaller height steps like sole plates and terrain around them consistently
-
Prevented radial menu from slowing down the game in co-op which would de-sync things temporarily
-
Fixed missing localization for "required materials" in the building upgrade window
-
Fixed long-standing issue where certain rocks and stones were either invisible (but interactable) or entirely missing. Loading pre-0.12.6 saved chunks will keep the affected rocks/stones missing to avoid surprises, but newly generated chunks will have all the extra rocks/stones that should be there
Additions:
-
Simplified Chinese localization - please reach out if you notice any weirdness or something that needs to be reworked in a different context!
-
Added a "can't reach that" message and cancellation of movement if the character walks in place too much due to a target object that is too high
-
Added localization for all region, village and sea names
Improvements:
-
Increased default timeout values for co-op to prevent connection failures in cases that would actually work if given a bit more time
-
Tasks given by NPCs now properly cancel if they die or become hostile to the player, shown in a new "cancelled" list in the journal
-
Improved object culling to prevent reflected trees from popping out of existence when looking down
Performance:
-
Reworked cloud shadow rendering to take less resources
-
Improved performance of SSAO
Graphics:
-
Added screen space reflections (SSR) seen in more modern games, and removed the previous camera render-based version. This will generally improve performance when viewing complex scenes with many objects and structures, but may require more resources with scenes that have a lot of water on screen. The resulting reflections will appear more physically accurate, and this allows all the rain puddles and water-filled containers to reflect the scene as well. Note that there are more tiers for the reflection quality setting and you may need to re-adjust to see a better looking result
-
Added a "very high" setting to SSAO that improves things for closer up details like character faces
-
Completely reworked sky and cloud rendering to be more physically accurate, as well as brighter twilight or "blue hour" periods
-
Reworked fog rendering to match the sky better and be more dramatic during sunrise/sunset
-
Reworked MSAA to automatically handle grass performantly so that there is no need for a separate "grass anti-aliasing" quality checkbox
-
Better long-distance terrain rendering so that it is more seamless with the closer physical terrain and has no more "melting in" effect
-
Improved the LOD transition of grasses and bushes so they no longer pop in as you move around, also allowing them to fade out nicely in the distance on lower object quality settings
-
Improved look of hair rendering, especially in shaded areas
-
Added some size variation to clay tiles on roofs to add some visual variety
Balance:
- Reduced leech chance
Other changes:
- Disabled unused Unity crash/error reporting to avoid a call to Unity servers
