Lights Of Tomorrow update Is Coming Next Week!
Hey Citizens!
We teased this for a while, now it's time to make it official! Our next major early access update, which our full team worked on over the past few months, is finally going live next week!
The Lights of Tomorrow update focuses on improving the first few hours you'll spend in CITY 20, while also laying the foundation for future updates we have planned for the upcoming months. It is our way to show you that we remain committed to the original vision we had for the game, while also acting on the feedback, support and suggestions you shared with us over the last 9 months.
Consider it a major milestone in the development of City 20, but also a platform from which to jump even higher!
A City That Keeps Changing
While we won't share a full changelog for the update until next week, we do want to give you a taste of what you can expect when *Lights of Tomorrow *goes live on July 14th. Alongside delivering a long list of technical improvements, the update aims to give both newcomers and veterans of City 20 a reason to jump back in.
From the very first minutes, you'll notice how much the city has changed. There's a new lore-rich tutorial waiting for you and a brand new cutscene that sheds a bit of light on where you really come from. The starting area and some of the city's outskirts have also changed and are now inhabited by a new set of colorful characters - not all of whom might be so open to a stranger walking among them!
We have also added something for returning players, with new areas to explore and a revamped dynamic map system. You'll now be able to see your location on the map regardless of the gadgets you have equipped and the map itself will update with notes, scribblings, and drawings as you explore to help you find your place in the world.
Power To The Masses
*Lights of Tomorrow *also expands on our already existing electrical power system. We're introducing a new power nodes mechanic and putting electricity back in the hands of the people! Puns aside, this gives you control over electricity for entire sections of the city, with the chance to restore power and use light (or darkness) to your advantage.
Speaking of masses, we're also reworking the way NPCs act, interact, and play a role within the game. Expect to come across more than a few new NPCs - each with their unique routine, needs, and quirks. The other citizens are also going to be more talkative and will be more likely to approach you with a request or to voice their concerns - especially once you gain their trust.
And finally, by popular demand, vendors have now been authorized to buy your junk off of you!
All In A Day's Work
This update couldn't be complete with something to do for the most experienced of city dwellers. Once you're done exploring, building your home, and finding the truth about the incident, you can now decide to support the community!
Lights of Tomorrow reintroduces faction-specific bulletin boards, where members of each faction can ask for help with various kinds of tasks. If you feel inclined to lend a hand, just head to the boards and pick your next task. If just doing a good deed isn't enough, know that there's always going to be some money and a bit of reputation to gain from completing the missions!
Not the most friendly of types? No worries! Alongside the rest, the update also includes the first version of our revamped combat system. We're sure you'll love it as you try alternative ways to settle your disputes with the rest of the city's inhabitants!
The Lights of Tomorrow update comes out next Monday, on July 14th, 2025! In the meantime, don't forget to join our Discord to stay up to date with the latest news from the development of City 20!
See you on the next one!
