Major Update: Steamy NEW Bachelor Portraits?!?

The V4 bachelor portraits are finally here! Thank you all for waiting so patiently. :)

A special thank you to our artist for all his hard work on these! 💙 And trust me, this WAS a lot of work, lol.

He created 18 bachelors with 11+ portraits and expressions each. Once you count all the concept art, redesigns, and iterations along the way, he's probably drawn over 300 portraits in total!

He originally started out as a fan of Cornucopia before becoming a "full-time" contractor. For the past 1.5+ years if my memory serves me correctly, he's been the only artist working on Cornucopia and the only person working on the game alongside me. I'm incredibly grateful to have someone with so much talent and passion helping bring this game to life. :)

And just to be clear, he isn't the artist who drew the original portraits, so don't blame him for any of the old male portraits that didn't turn out so great, lol.

The New Portraits

  • All 18 bachelors have brand-new V4 portraits, with 10 facial expressions each. V4 is enabled by default.

  • Prefer the old look? Choose V1, V2, or V3 under Portrait Style in Settings. You can also choose a style for individual characters in the Character Portrait menu.

  • If you were using V3, the game will switch you to V4 once. If you had V1 or V2 selected, or chose a specific style for an individual character, those choices will stay the same.

  • The Character Portrait menu is now sorted A to Z and split into Female, Male, and Others. Each group also has a Set All row.

  • Dialogue portraits react to big moments: hearts when someone is in love, sweat when they're scared, a gloomy cloud when they're sad, and angry marks when you've upset them.

The Big Ones

  • New Combat setting with four choices: Peaceful, Gentle, Normal, or Hard. On Peaceful, nothing can hurt you or your pets. (Thanks, jack and tokyochel!)

  • Every weapon has its own speed, reach, swing, and sound. Every third hit is a big finisher, and each weapon type has its own special attack. (Thanks, StarMovement and Khornet!)

  • Enemies have weapon weaknesses, so if a hit sounds dull, try a different weapon. (Thanks, Rat and Tsunaamii, for the idea!)

  • Monsters glow just before they swing, giving you a chance to dodge. No more than two will attack you at once. (Thanks, NULL, Crystaldawn00, and everyone who pointed out that dodging a hit could be difficult!)

  • Weapons no longer use energy. Tools still do. (Thanks, zephthejay!)

  • The water got a glow-up: sunlight sparkles on the waves, deep water looks deeper, swimming and wading create splashes and ripples, and rain leaves puddles behind.

  • The fishing line moves more naturally and is easier to see.

  • The Settings menu now scrolls all the way down on every tab, and the contents no longer overlap.

  • A new farm now saves as soon as the intro ends.

  • Staying up past midnight no longer breaks festivals or the following day. (Thanks, Reverie, mfhaas, and epiclurker!)

  • The Animals page now has a tab for each animal type and scrolls all the way down. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

Little Moments

  • The first gemstone fruit, Cornucopia piece, or new fish of each kind gets its own little celebration.

Fixes and Changes

Starting a New Farm

  • The intro moves along faster. You can skip the truck ride and still receive all of Rufus's gifts.

  • After you plant your first seed, the game points you toward fishing, crafting, or giving a gift, so you'll know what to try next.

  • Starting a new farm from the title screen no longer carries anything over from your previous farm.

Fighting

  • Bows, crossbows, and slingshots now have their own special attacks. Arrows stick where they land, and monsters sometimes drop arrows. (Thanks, LuckyDuck60!)

  • Weapons and hats in shops now show their exact stats before you buy them. (Thanks, RueMorgue and fluffbutter!)

  • After your first trip into the caves, Winter mails you tips explaining which weapons work best against which monsters. (Thanks, Romad!)

  • On Hard, bosses attack faster and use their big moves more often. (Thanks, DrLinds and Smoothvillain!)

  • Attacking while riding now makes your mount attack, too. (Thanks, Shawn!)

  • Poison and burn damage against the spider boss no longer goes to waste while she's up on the roof. (Thanks, Kraehe!)

  • Lots of fixes for special attacks, TP, buffs, and pet effects. Enemies can no longer get back up after dying.

Farm and Cooking

  • Frying a single egg, bread, corn, or rice is quicker, and the food browns as it cooks. (Thanks, MikazukiChu!)

  • Fried Egg recipes now show the correct egg picture and use an egg you've fried yourself. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

  • Ants on a Log is food again, not firewood. (Thanks, mfhaas!)

  • The Crystallizer and Mushroom Bag duplicate items again. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

  • The Butter Churn and Yogurt Maker now only accept real milk, and the Bee Colony only accepts real sugar.

  • Your Mining and Logging skills now increase your pickaxe and axe critical-hit chances as intended.

  • Rustic and Brick Fireplaces can now be placed.

  • Fixed a range of issues with machines, watering, tilling, rocks, and furniture placement.

Animals and Pets

  • Filling Munger's food bowl counts as feeding him again, and rain fills his water bowl again.

  • Pets can no longer get stuck inside town shops. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

  • Gold Milk is special again, with a happy cow producing it on roughly one day in four.

  • Medicine now fully cures a sick animal, and bred eggs keep the chick you bred.

  • The Bell now calls horses, monsters, and slimes back to the barn.

Fishing

  • Moon fishing now works as described.

  • Sea Urchins now explain how to get them. (Thanks, mfhaas!)

  • Picking up a fish trap that contains a fish now gives you the fish.

  • The fishing minigame can no longer get stuck, and its bumpers and cards now pay out the correct amounts.

Shops, Cards, and the Arcade

  • Shops now charge the price they display, and buying 10 items gives you all 10.

  • The Fast Cash Bin and shipping bin can no longer sell your weapons or tools by mistake. (Thanks, Wolfnut88!)

  • Bulletin board quests now only ask for things you can actually do. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

  • The ticket crane now gives you your prize if you walk away while it's grabbing it.

  • About a dozen cards that did nothing or had the wrong effect now work properly, including Shield, Take Less Bomb Damage, and Double Fruit.

Villagers and Festivals

  • Friends no longer talk to you as if you're dating or married. Only the person you're dating will say "I love you."

  • Kyoko, Nancy, Wyatt, Brianna, and Vincent now talk to you on festival days. (Thanks, Shawn!)

  • If someone hands back a gift, it no longer uses up your one gift for that person that day.

  • You can visit Magnus in the galley again after fixing Argus's boat. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

  • The camera now stays on the stage during Magnus's concert. (Thanks, epiclurker!)

  • Harold now takes Sundays off, and shopkeepers stay home on their days off instead of getting locked inside their shops.

  • Fixed a number of festival issues involving entry boxes, the Winter Festival gift box, pumpkins, and high scores.

Controller and Menus

  • With a controller, swinging beside a rock, stump, or weed now selects the right tool and swings in one press.

  • On Steam Deck, splitting a stack now always works, and the glove pointer hides while you gather. (Thanks, jkb3p and epiclurker!)

  • Your key and button changes now save right away.

  • Notifications on the left now fade when you're standing behind them. (Thanks, Shawn!)

  • The in-game bug report screen is easier to use.

Look and Feel

  • The waterfall now matches the river all the way over the edge.

  • Morning light now comes from the side where the sun is, and the blocky cloud shadows are gone.

  • The mountains behind the farm have their proper colours again.

  • Munger and Pickle are playing on the title screen again.

  • Trees now sway on stormy days, too.

Text and Languages

  • Status effects, monster names, and calendar days now appear in your chosen language instead of showing leftover English.

Crashes and Saving

  • Long play sessions no longer cause memory usage to keep growing over time.

  • After passing out, the game works normally again, and you won't lose your money and items twice.

  • Fixed an issue where loading a save could pay out the shipping bin twice or cause problems with full bags.

  • Swimming and diving no longer leave you floating or sinking after a conversation.

  • Fixed a rare crash on the farm and several errors that kept repeating.

Lots of love,

David ❤️

Please report any bugs or issues on discord, there were a lot of changes. (I'll probably end up doing some quick hot-fixes to fix any additional bugs, but I just wanted to release this update now, lol)
