v1.1.0: Everybody Turn Around
Hi everyone!
v1.0 has been out for a few weeks now, and I had already started working on v1.1.0. I would have liked to release it sooner. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. It happens, and that's just how it is.
The rules
I reworked how rules are drawn when you ask for new ones. The whole point is to get different rules, not the same ones twice. So I tweaked the algorithm to draw rules more intelligently and avoid offering you the same ones again.
I also added two new rules that can be offered even at the very start of a game. The first one is about the ice floe. If you vote for it, players who are on the ice floe no longer collect rent. In short, if you land on the ice floe, you won't receive any rent at all.
The second rule is about the direction the pawns move. By default, everyone moves clockwise. Well, if you vote for this rule, the direction is reversed and everyone moves counterclockwise.
These two rules have a big impact on how a game plays out. I think they are the ones that can really shake up a game in progress. I hope you'll enjoy them!
A few more tweaks
When you play online with your friends only, with no strangers, the game now loads faster. The Valve Anti-Cheat check runs asynchronously, since I assume your friends won't cheat. As a result, your games load much faster.
On top of that, there are a few small wording changes to the rules. You'll see them when you launch the game. The other big change concerns the computer players. They now use their cards much more intelligently, which naturally raises the difficulty.
Bug fixes
Some games could get desynchronized because of the cards in play. Basically, some players were playing too slowly while others were playing too fast, and that's what caused the desync. This is now fixed.
Another issue could happen while the game was loading. The game could also desync while you were adjusting certain settings. This one has been fixed too.
There was also a Windows-specific bug with fullscreen mode, which didn't work quite right. After digging into the Godot Engine code, I made a tiny fix to solve the problem. And that did the trick.
So that's quite a few big changes, both under the hood and on the surface. I hope you enjoy them. I keep reading your feedback and improving the game. These rules weren't easy to add.
