Mission Objective: Beta

Welcome back, Mech pilots!

We’re getting close to releasing a Steam demo, but before that we are opening a beta demo on itch.io to gather feedback and run broader hardware testing.

If you’ve been curious about the game or waiting to see how everything fits together, then this beta is meant to give you a solid feel for the full experience.

What’s in the beta demo?

This beta introduces the opening of the procedural campaign, including:

• How missions connect across a campaign

• Pilot rank-ups and skill progression

• Early strategic decisions that carry forward

It’s built to showcase the game’s core loop without spoiling later systems or late-game content (such as the rival empires, they’ll come in later).

Why the beta is on itch.io

Releasing this version on itch lets us:

• Collect early feedback to improve the game

• Test performance across a wide range of hardware and configurations

• Fix bugs and improve stability before the Steam demo goes live

All of this directly feeds into making the Steam demo the best it can be.

Your feedback matters

Player feedback has already shaped Drop Command in big ways. Since the alpha demo, we’ve added: colourblind accessibility options, 360° turret rotation for tanks, and improved infantry survivability.

If you played the earlier alpha demo, this beta goes well beyond the Hot Drop combat sandbox, introducing the campaign structure and progression that were missing before.

We’re especially interested in feedback on campaign clarity and whether the early progression feels motivating. This is still a small-team project, and early feedback helps us decide what to focus on next.
