Update 70: Memories Of Self

The 1.0 launch has gone really well, and I really appreciate the flood of support and reviews and feedback that has accompanied it!

This build has a bunch more additions and tweaks based on that feedback. There's still a lot of things on my todo list that I have not yet gotten to, but I'm pushing out batches roughly once or twice a week.

If you’ve spent time with Heart of the Machine and want to leave a review, that’d be appreciated. No need to say more than you mean, but if you’ve been meaning to write one, I’d be grateful. Steam reviews carry weight. For a project like this — developed by a single person over many years, every review makes a difference.

Honest thoughts are what matter. Whatever your experience has been, sharing it helps. It’s a powerful way to have your voice heard and contributes to how future patches are prioritized and addressed.

Thanks for reading and for playing.

Update 70 Changelog

Quality Of Life

  • Clearing Search When Filtering: In the build sidebar, if you do anything that would filter to specific internal robotics or other structure groups, then it will clear your search string if there is one.
  • The Wanderbot Special: There is a new contemplation in chapter 3+, when you have auto-explore options available that you have not done yet in a timeline, and when you are in normal or hard mode (not extreme or misery). This contemplation is called "Memories Of Exploration" and allows you to immediately get all of the previously exploration sites that you've done, at no Daring cost. The idea here is to allow for a lower-ish difficulty way of having less repetition, and to allow people to more quickly bootstrap Daring for the later game. It blocks you from doing extreme or misery versions of the sabotage of the spaceport later, as well. This is only available in English until sometime next week.
  • Cycling Buildings Of A Type: There is a new hotkey bound to the slash key (/), which allows you to cycle to the next building of the type that you currently have selected. So if you have one aerospace hangar selected, it lets you cycle to the next one, and through all of them in a loop.
  • Pausing Buildings In Bulk: Under the logistics section of command mode, there is a new "Pause Mode": Any building of yours that you click will be immediately paused or un-paused. Some buildings cannot be paused, and will not show as valid.

Clarity

  • Delaying Factory Suggestions: The "Found A Cybercratic Haven" project no longer suggests that you build worker factories or robotic motivator factories, because it's not yet telling you what those even do.
  • Prevention Of Accidental Murder-bots: The "worker predators" no longer spawn related to your Cyberocracy Hubs until you have started the project "Secure Your Cybercratic Haven," which is what explains the roles of the three kinds of workers.
  • Regional Map Tooltips No Longer Estimate Citizens: Adjusted the tooltips of cities and settlements and such in the regional map to always show the full number of citizens, inhabitants, etc. There's plenty of room for that, and the rounding of that was different from when they are selected in the bottom left, which was confusing.

Balance

  • Constructing Over More Small Objects: Adjusted it so that you can now build over the small water tanks, military fences, and hedgehogs, when you have "Pave Over Everything."
  • Preventing People From Needing Double Food: If you have reached the part of Cybercratic Ambitions where you are providing food of whichever sort, the need to also provide meal kits in order to prevent starvation deaths now goes away. This of course applies only in cases where meal kits were required in the first place.

Bugfixes

  • A Rare Time-Traveling Bugfix: Fixed a rare exception that could happen with trying to save end of time objects that were deleted.
  • Cleaning Up Debug Text: Fixed some debugging numbers that I accidentally left in the "Provide Daily Necessities and Furniture" project tooltip.
  • Lower Levels Of Survival Microbuilders Actually Remember To Produce Themselves: Fixed an issue that has been around in the "Lower Levels Of Survival" path since it was first created on December 5th of last year, where the microbuilder producers did not actually produce any microbuilders. Evidently everyone who came into this path, including me, had so many microbuilders that somehow none of us ever noticed this was non-functional.
  • Network Sources Now Universally Suggested: If the game is suggesting that you build an emergency network source, or an underground network source, previously that was not showing up in the All category. Only in Suggested and Hand. Now it also shows up in All.
  • More Achievement Miscategorization: Three of the "Lower Levels Of Survival" achievements were being grouped under the "Post-Apocalyptic Titan" section, incorrectly.
  • Curiosity Now More Clearly Overwhelms Bashful Robots: Fixed an issue where if you hide four times in the prologue, then it would still talk about the delivery address even though that no longer was an option. Now it just talks about looking in the box. Note that if you hide three or fewer times, you can talk to all the various folks, and then still go to the delivery address. But hiding the fourth time correctly switches you to just looking in the box. The error here was that it still talked about the delivery address after the fourth time.
  • Hostile Forces Searching For You Now Properly Labeled: Fixed an issue where the "post-mimic security sweeps" were classified as neutral, and thus it was very hard to filter to them. They now all are classified both as hostile and also as corporate aggressors.
  • Typo Fix: Fixed a missing word in the "An Urgent Warning" message.
  • What Difficulty Is It!?!: Fixed an issue in the complexity type window tooltips where if it was still the setup phase, it would not properly say what the current difficulty was if it was higher than normal. This was a visual issue only. [/expand]Full notes here.
