Shaping Plains of Pain for Every Kind of Player

Dev Blog: Shaping the Wasteland for Every Kind of Player

This is one of the most important Dev Blog posts we have written so far.

Over time, we have been carefully listening to your feedback and observing how the game behaves across many different playstyles, setups, and hardware configurations. We noticed certain edge cases appearing from time to time. Situations where vehicles behaved differently depending on world state, performance conditions, or rare interactions. Alongside that, we also saw very different expectations for how demanding or relaxed the overall experience should feel.

We realized something important.

Plains of Pain has grown into a game played by many different kinds of players. Hardcore survivors. Builders. Explorers. Players who enjoy careful planning and pressure. Players who simply want to drive, build, and enjoy the world at their own pace. With a single fixed rule set, it becomes increasingly difficult to support all of these playstyles equally well.

So we made a clear decision.

We are now investing a maximum amount of effort into systems that give more control directly to the players. Systems that reduce friction in rare edge scenarios. Systems that allow you to shape the experience around how you want to play.

This is not about making the game easier. This is about making the game fairer, more flexible, and more enjoyable for everyone.

Here is what we are working on.

Step One: Vehicle Management System

Our first and current focus is a Vehicle Management system.

This system will allow players to open a dedicated section where they can see all vehicles they own in one place. From there, you will be able to manage them in a more arcade friendly and stress free way.

Planned features include:

  • Respawn a selected vehicle

  • Locate a vehicle and show its last known position on the map

  • Direct connection to the existing Vehicle Upgrade system

  • Tools designed to reduce frustration caused by rare vehicle bugs

This system is especially important for players who prefer a more casual or arcade style of play. It allows you to lower the frustration without touching the core survival systems for those who enjoy the hardcore experience.

This is our top priority right now.

Step Two: Creative Mode and Dev Tools

After the Vehicle Management system is in place, we will move on to a Creative style mode.

This mode is designed for players who want more freedom, experimentation, and a relaxed way to build and test ideas without the pressure of full survival restrictions.

Planned features include:

  • Simplified base building requirements that allow easier and faster construction

  • Spawning items, materials, enemies, and vehicles for testing purposes

  • Faster movement across the world to support exploration and experimentation

  • Tools focused on testing builds, layouts, and gameplay ideas

This mode is not meant to replace survival gameplay. It will exist alongside it as an optional way to play. Builders, creators, and experimenters will have a space to create, test, and enjoy the world with fewer limitations while survival remains intact for those who want the full challenge.

Step Three: Reworked World Difficulty and Setup

The third step will be a rework of how players set up their world when starting a new game.

Right now, players choose from five fixed difficulty options. With this rework, we want to expand that idea and give players more freedom.

Instead of only fixed choices, we plan to offer:

  • A small set of developer prepared difficulty presets for quick setup

  • A fully customizable world setup for players who want full control

With the custom world setup, players will be able to decide how their wasteland should behave.

Planned options include, for example, with more options coming over time:

  • Turning Dynamic Trading on or off

  • Adjusting environmental pressure

  • Changing enemy strength

  • Modifying experience gain

  • Setting skill points per level

  • Additional world modifiers

This allows players to stay close to the current experience if they like it, or reshape the world into something more relaxed or more demanding.

Our goal is simple. Let players decide how their wasteland should feel.

Why We Are Doing This

We are doing this because we care.

We know that one fixed rule set cannot satisfy everyone anymore. The game is bigger. The community is bigger. The expectations are different. And that is a good thing.

These changes are about respecting player time, reducing frustration, and giving freedom of choice without removing depth.

This is us pushing harder than ever to make Plains of Pain the best experience it can be for all of you.

Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts honestly.

And remember this is just the beginning.
