Developers diaries #1
At Forward, we mainly develop (https://fwdsim.com/) and software for them. City Car Driving has been a core gaming product for us for many years. Changing the game engine for City Car Driving 2.0 and creating a project not related to simulators is a big step forward for our small team. We really care about the legacy of the original City Car Driving, making the most of it and trying to add new activities to the game to keep the player engaged at all times
City Car Driving 2.0 is set in a seaside resort town where it’s always summer. The main innovation in the game world, compared to the original City Car Driving, is its content. Now all locations, whether it’s a town or suburb, have their own history emphasized by the surroundings. We have significantly improved the system of occupations and in addition to the updated taxi and transportation of goods, we have introduced several new ones. You can concentrate on a specific job, or do all of them at once, if you like.
We are updating City Car Driving mechanics and adding new ones. We’ll be talking about them in our future issues, but for now just take a quick look at them.
Changed car fueling system.
Now, during a trip, your car can get dirty, so there are car washes in the game where you can have your car cleaned to a pristine state.
We have completely redesigned the car damage system, and now you’ll have to repair your cars.
Most of the game activities are still under development, we haven’t yet started on the interface. This is just a small part of what we are going to implement in City Car Driving 2.0
**Will there be multiplayer? ** We are aware that many of you want to see multiplayer, but at the moment we don’t have the opportunity to fully implement it, while constantly maintaining interest and performance for each player.
**Why is it a new product rather than a development of the original City Car Driving? ** *We changed the engine, changed the gameplay, introduced new mechanics, so Car Driving 2.0 is not just a global update – it’s a new game. *
**Will players be able to create and add their own cars in City Car Driving 2.0? ** Yes, they will.
**Will players be able to create and add their own maps in City Car Driving 2.0? ** We would really like to provide such an opportunity, especially given that our users would love to create their own maps. However, in the early access version, the map editor is not expected.
**Does your game support gamepad, steering wheel, and other devices? ** Yes, it does.
**Can we get out of the car and walk around the city? ** *No, you can’t, at this stage we don’t see any point in creating this mechanic for a car simulator. *
In our next issue, we’ll be talking about technical solutions, show some screenshots of the workflow and answer a lot more new questions. Dev diaries are now released every two weeks, where we are talking in detail about the development of the game. Don’t miss them!
