Tyr gets new map (Core), full Squad support, Discord decoupling and more
This is our first major update since Tyr entered Early Access, and there is a lot in it.
Here are the headlines:
-
Core, our brand-new urban map, is here
-
Full squads of up to eight players are now available in the Standard queue
-
Discord integration is now optional for Clan creation and membership
-
Lots more...
As always, we offer these updates in written and video form, find both below.
Let's begin.
Welcome to Core
Core is Tyr's newest map and our first urban battlefield. It brings Tyr's tank combat into a city environment, with tight corridors, structures, and new spaces to learn as you figure out the best routes, positions, and firing angles.
We put together a trailer to give you a proper first look.
For Core's launch weekend, we're increasing its likelihood of appearing in the map pool. Maps will still be chosen randomly, so you will not get Core every time, but you should see it more often and have a better chance to learn it over the course of the weekend.
After the weekend, Core's appearance rate will return to normal alongside the rest of the map pool.
Let us know what you think once you've had time to play it.
Full Squad support is here
This is a big one, and we know it took us longer than many of you wanted.
Squads were previously limited to three players outside the full-stack testing windows we ran on weekends. With this update, the Standard queue now supports flexible Squads of up to eight players.
That means you can queue with three, four, five, six, seven, or eight players whenever you want.
The matchmaker will prioritize placing squads against squads of equal size on the other team. The goal is to keep both teams operating with similar levels of group coordination whenever possible while still keeping the queue moving.
Players have been asking us for permanent full Squads for a long time. They're here. Stack up.
Discord integration is now optional for clans
We heard you loud and clear on this one, including on the Steam forums, in our Discord, and in your reviews.
Discord integration is no longer required to create or join a clan.
Discord linking is optional. Everyone can access Clan Scans, leaderboards, and member lists whether they connect Discord or not.
Here are some potential scenarios.
**Clan creator does not connect Discord: **The clan works normally, but it has no in-game or Discord chat.
**Clan creator connects Discord: **The clan gets a shared chat available both in-game and through its connected Discord server.
[p align="start"]Members can participate in two ways:
-
Without connecting their Discord: They can use the in-game chat, and their messages will also appear in Discord under their Steam name. No personal Discord account is associated with their messages; we actually use a fake, provisional Discord account to pull this off.
-
With Discord connected: They can chat in-game or through Discord using their Discord name. Their messages are associated with their connected account.
[p align="start"]Discord is never required to create a clan, join one, or access its core features. It only affects how clan chat works.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to explain what made the previous setup frustrating. Your feedback directly led us to this decision, and we want to hear what you think of the new implementation once you have had a chance to use it.
Discord is still required for the Alpha Program. Our Alpha Program depends on close, direct feedback. We regularly trade replay files, screenshots, and videos with Alpha Tank players, and we sometimes hop into calls to work through feedback together. Discord remains the best way for us to do that.
That said, the Discord permissions required for Alpha Tanks are significantly lighter.
Gold is now available in the in-game shop
Another common request was the ability to purchase more Gold after using the Gold included in the Founder's Pack. You can now purchase Gold directly from the in-game shop and use it on tank styles, charms, kill effects, and other cosmetics.
If you do not own the Founder's Pack yet, it is still the best value. For $14.99, it includes 3,000 GOLD, which is worth $30, plus the exclusive Founder title and golden Tyr charm.
Buying Gold directly is there for players who already used their Founder's Pack Gold and want to pick up more cosmetics. If you don't have any Gold yet, start with the Founder's Pack. It's a better deal.
Custom horns and new kill effects are here
Unique horns are now available as unlockable cosmetics.
There are 12 horns in total. You can earn them from Drops or purchase them with Gold, then make sure the entire battlefield knows you have arrived.
We have also added two new kill effects: Decay and Boom.
Balance changes and bug fixes
This update includes more bug fixes and balance changes. You can dig into every adjustment in the full patch notes on Steam or Discord.
Here are the major tank changes and some context on what we're thinking.
Seeker
Seeker is getting a straightforward buff:
-
Max Health increased from 850 to 950
-
Aim Speed increased from 1.3 degrees per second to 1.56 degrees per second
Ark
Ark is receiving a nerf:
-
Reload time increased from 8 seconds to 9 seconds
-
Turret rotation speed reduced from 35 degrees per second to 28 degrees per second
Alecto
We're starting with three changes to Alecto:
-
The Hull Tilt Tech Node has been replaced with an Acceleration Tech Node
-
Alecto now correctly triggers enemy mines when driving over them
-
The Tertiary Shell Tech Node has been reduced from 6 shells to 3
Alecto has some scenarios where it can absolutely dominate. Two issues were making that worse than intended: it could drive over mines without triggering them, and it could fire over ridges while exposing almost nothing to return fire. Neither interaction was intended.
We like that Alecto is particularly effective with shell effects because of its rapid fire rate. However, getting six tertiary shells from a one-point investment was too much, especially when Duplicator could double them.
We're also looking closely at the strong synergy between Alecto's rate of fire and Weakness Analyzer, but we want more time to test and consider any additional changes.
Alecto's strengths touch a wide range of components and shells that also affect other tanks. We want to preserve what makes Alecto unique and fun while keeping interesting build options available across the roster.
Not long ago, Alecto was considered unviable in competitive play. For now, we want to see how these three changes shake out before making additional adjustments.
Congratulations to Voly, our newest tourney champ
We have a new Tyr tournament champion. Voly defeated Team Cyanic in the finals and took home the $1,500 first-place prize. Team Cyanic earned $750 for second place, while Unity and STAKD finished third and fourth and earned $250 each.
Congratulations to all four teams, and thank you to everyone who played and watched.
Our next tournament is scheduled for October 17th, 2026. We'll share registration details and more soon. You can watch this past tourney's finals below.
Thanks for playing Tyr, providing feedback, and telling your friends.
We'll see you on the battlefield. 🫡
