Fruitbus Devlog #1

Merry almost Christmas, happy holidays, and welcome to the first Fritbus devlog!

We here at Krillbite wanted to create a fun little something for all of you while we’re hard at work on the bus. We want to show where we are in development, showcase some of the cool things we’re working on and of course shine a spotlight on the amazing community content we’ve seen! So we’re placing a neatly wrapped devlog right under your christmas tree!

And we’re not the only ones excited! Christmas is in full swing in Gustum

The response to Fruitbus so far has been nothing short of incredible, and we can’t thank you all enough! We announced Fruitbus this summer, and shortly after took it to Gamescom. Meeting, playing and chatting with so many people was incredible, both for our team and the game’s development! We’ve learned a lot by watching you play, and even more when talking afterwards. Getting to hear live feedback, see players' reactions, and engaging in exciting conversations is exactly why we love going to conventions. So getting to do it all over again at Tokyo Game Show in September was fantastic! We’re all very passionate about Fruitbus, so seeing players be just as excited as we are really motivates us.

While we’re on the topic of this bus, let’s give an update on the demo. So, when is the demo coming back?

A date will be announced, but expect to see it again sometime next year! We will of course announce it here when it happens, but if you want to be the first person to know consider joining our Discord!

**Now, on to development updates!! **

A Fresh Coat Of Paint

A fresh coat of paint is coming! You want to sling the tastiest dish this side of Gustum, why not do it in hot pink? Or race car red? Or cool blue?? The options are limitless! (well, the options may be limited). With the new paint item, you’ll be able to make your food truck look however you want. You can even mix and match!

Of course, the outside of the truck isn’t the only thing getting a fresh coat of paint! (This is our clever way of saying you can also paint the inside of the truck.) But, we’ve also got some fresh new ways to customize. Introducing…

**Internal decorations. Different shelves in different styles **

Yeah you could place your fruit on one of these basic shelves, But wouldn’t you much rather have… ONE OF THESE!

We have a set of unique themes all made to show each region's personality! Travel to the different regions to get each and one of their unique designs to decorate your truck.

Travel to Noto and get the charming wooden countertops and shelves.

Or you could go for something more dramatic and travel to the vulcano to get the shelves and countertops with lava!

Or maybe something more practical and sporty like the camping theme.

Or our cute pink seashell theme to make your truck look extra fancy ːradiantheartː

Or you know, mix and match and just pick whatever you vibe with the most. Remember to check your local shops, because they may be the ones carrying the unique items for your Fruitbus. We’re sure you’ll find something that really speaks to your bus in the grand archipelago, so keep an eye out!

Oh, and one more thing. Shelves, fruits and boxes aren’t the only thing you’ll be able to put inside your truck. But that’s a whole other line of product, and we’re not quite ready to show that yet. But keep your eyes peeled for future devlog updates!

Also… Keep in mind, these are works in progress. We’re still hard at work developing these assets and many (many) others, so what we showed here today may not be entirely representative of what ends up in the final game. That being said, if you have any wishes for future items to be added please do let us know here or on our Discord!

New Frying System

Stir frying is an artform, and it’s also one of the many ways to cook in Fruitbus. The team felt we could improve this process, so work has started on a new system to Stir Fry. We’re excited about this new take on the system, and we feel this is us going in the right direction. Here's what we've got so far!

The old frying just didn't sit right with our frying fantasy™️, was very tedious and just felt like salad with lots of extra steps and time.

It had one ingredient at a time, taking up to a WHOLE minute to fry (around 3 minutes for a grandmas stir fry!), then you had to take it out and add it to a bowl like a normal salad. We didn’t feel like we had nailed it.

We wanted a more enjoyable, snappier and fun way to fry things. The main goal for the iterated frying was to be able to make a stir fry like you would in real life (almost); frying multiple ingredients together to let their flavors combine and harmonize together in a single pan, then transferring the stir fry to a serving bowl!

The progress bar on the stovetop has been replaced by visual and auditory cues. Like before, if you don’t stir the fruit it will get burnt and ruin the dish. When ingredients start burning now, they start to bounce around the pan! (they do the "we are currently burning please help us dance").

There are of course still a few bugs to work out, and some visual effects to add, but overall we think this new system feels way better than the old one!

This is very much a work in progress, and we can’t say for sure when this new way to stir fry will be in your very capable hands. We could also, of course, rework this again at a future point. Regardless, we’d love to hear your thoughts on this either here or in our Discord!
