Patch 1.0.1 Public Beta: Try it Now

Ahoy, Seafarers!

We’ve just put a work-in-progress version of our upcoming Patch 1.0.1 live on the Steam Public Beta branch.

If you’d like to help us test the update early, this beta gives you access to the fixes, improvements, and adjustments we’re currently preparing for the official patch release. Your feedback during this phase helps us catch issues sooner and polish the patch before it goes out to everyone.

A quick note on the version number: the Public Beta build will currently still display 1.0.0. We’ll update the version number to 1.0.1 when the patch is officially released.

What to expect from the Public Beta

This is an active development build, and we expect to update it several times over the coming days as additional fixes and adjustments become ready.

We won’t announce every individual Public Beta build separately as long as the overall scope of the update remains unchanged. If there are substantial changes or anything important you need to know, we’ll let you know here.

As this is a work-in-progress build, please also take a look at the Known Issues further below before joining the beta.

How to join the Public Beta

If you’d like to test the upcoming update, you can switch to the Public Beta directly through Steam:

  1. Open your Steam Library.

  2. Right-click Seafarer: The Ship Sim and select Properties.

  3. Open the Game Versions and Betas section.

  4. Select public_beta – Public Beta.

  5. Steam should automatically download the Public Beta build.

Once the download is complete, simply launch the game as usual.

To return to the regular version of Seafarer, follow the same steps and select the default public version again.

Please keep in mind: the Public Beta is a work-in-progress version of the upcoming patch. We recommend checking the Known Issues below before switching branches.

Public Beta Release Notes

Features & Usability

• Added harbour Fast Travel buttons. • Adjusted resource consumption and restrictions. • Added several new tutorial cards to provide clearer explanations and guidance for different game systems. • Integrated campaign bonuses into regular mission rewards. Single-shift jobs no longer provide a separate bonus that needs to be claimed. • Added an experimental screenshot function to the camera. • Disabled Fast Travel while inside harbour areas.

Missions & Campaign

• Improved pacing and player guidance in Campaign Chapters 1, 2, and 6. • Fixed missing, duplicate, and misleading markers across several missions. • Added world markers for ship transfers. • Added harbourmaster tasks to transport missions and corrected several harbourmaster interactions. • Fixed issues involving missing dialogue, dialogue timing, mission audio, object placement, and ship spawning.

Ships, Controls & Trading

• Adjusted handling for Bernhard, Density, and Lancer to reduce overly sharp turning behaviour. • Corrected azipod controls after changing their neutral position, improving towing behaviour with the Greenstar. • Improved the towing interaction area in Tug & Tow gameplay. • Fixed several collision issues aboard ships and around docking locations. • Adjusted harbour trading balance and added dynamic trade price calculations.

Multiplayer & Stability

• Fixed missing escort markers, inspection information, and warning sounds for multiplayer clients. • Improved binocular visibility and animation synchronisation. • Enabled ship light controls for multiplayer clients. • Improved player list updates and world marker synchronisation. • Fixed crashes that could occur when switching ships during trading.

Interface, Visuals & Audio

• Improved calendar readability, map labels, mission text, and harbour travel buttons. • Fixed persistent “New” indicators and recurring unlock notifications. • Improved ship models, harbour scenery, glass materials, nighttime window lighting, hair, and character animations. • Improved rain, LNG, crane, footstep, horn, sonar, and mission audio. • Updated translations, tutorial text, dialogue, and error messages across several supported languages.

Known Issues

Since this is a work-in-progress build, there are several issues we are already aware of and working on:

• Multiplayer clients currently do not receive mission rewards after completing a mission. • LNG interactions in multiplayer may not update correctly, which can cause pumps to become stuck until players interact with the controller. • Using the “Travel To” button in the Job Menu during multiplayer can cause clients to crash. This appears to occur more frequently over longer travel distances. • In some situations, players attempting to teleport to another location may instead be returned to the ship’s deck. • Bulk Cargo jobs in multiplayer can sometimes not be completed.

Please keep these issues in mind when playing on the Public Beta branch.

Your feedback helps!

If you decide to join the Public Beta, we’d especially appreciate hearing about any new issues you encounter, as well as your experience with the changes listed above.

We’ll continue updating the beta build as work on Patch 1.0.1 progresses towards its official release.

Thank you to everyone helping us test the update, and as always, thank you for your reports, discussions, and feedback.

See you on the horizon, The Seafarer Team
