Evolution Update (1.3.3)

Hey Buggos! A player told us the More Speed evolution did nothing, so we went through all 127 evolutions and mutations and checked each one against its description. Most were fine. The ones below weren't, and now they do what they say. There are also crash fixes, a What's New button and a livelier main menu.

Evolutions

• More Speed now speeds up every Buggo by 5% per node. Before, it only sped up Swarmers.

• Buzz Buzz Buzz Wasps now spawn with half their health, as described. Before, they spawned with 1 health.

• Warrior Endurance now also saves Warriors from hits that ignore armor, such as Tesla Turret shots.

• Peaceful Builders now never attack. Before, a Builder that survived a hit (for example with extra health from evolutions or crystals) turned and fought whoever hit it instead of getting back to building.

• Home Field Advantage is now the only source of Defender armor on Goo, at +4 per node. Before, every Defender got +5 armor on Goo even without it.

• Global Swarm Damage and the Ill-Tempered mutation now also add to Boom Slug and Mini Slug explosions and the Devourer's Omega Laser.

• Best Parent no longer gives living Swarm Mothers an extra Swarmer every time you close the evolution chamber in Survival or Custom Maps.

• Buggos standing on Goo when you close the evolution chamber keep their Goo bonuses. Before, they lost them, and lost them again when they stepped off.

• Cheaper Pus says "by 2" instead of "by -2", and the Boom Slug Pool shows the lower supply cost from Reduced Slug Swarm Capacity Cost.

Mutations

• Builder Gooifier: Builders are now really 20% faster on Goo.

• Bursting Brood no longer needs the Rebuilding evolution. Buildings you delete yourself don't release Swarmers.

• Crystal Mothers now does something: Swarm Mothers pass on half their Crystal and Fungus bonuses only with this mutation. Before, every Swarm Mother did it for free.

• Ossifying Dermal Plating no longer gives Spore Turrets 2 more targets every time you close the evolution chamber.

• Slug Armageddon: a mass breed now adds 5 Boom Slugs. Before, it showed "Mass Breeding!" and spawned nothing extra.

• "Mass Breeding!" only shows when extra Buggos actually hatch.

• Mutation descriptions are corrected in every language: Ossifying Dermal Plating, Posthumous Mitosis, Warrior Breeding Stimulator, Slug Armageddon, Impregnation and Greater Slug Explosives.

Main Menu

• New What's New button next to the version number, with the patch notes from every update. A NEW badge shows until you've read the latest ones.

• The menu got some juice: the logo drops in, the buttons pop in and react when you hover and click, and menus grow in instead of snapping.

Fixes

• Rebuilt spawners take back their own orphaned Buggos: the Cerebral Mass adopts Brain Bugs (it was adopting Titans), the Defender Burrow adopts Defenders, and Swarmer Dens adopt Golden Swarmers.

• The Leviathan Brooder shows a Leviathan's supply cost (12), not a Titan's (20).

• Fixed rare crashes with the Warrior Warship mutation, the Wasps' Infestation evolution, and closing the evolution chamber mid-level.

Multiplayer

• Evolutions you buy more than once now stack, as in single player. Before, buying Increased Swarm Capacity four times counted as once.

• Double Damage to Buildings now also hits enemy Buggos buildings.

Performance & Tech

• The game now ships as an optimized release build, capped at 120 FPS.

• Windows renders with Vulkan again, since Direct3D 12 crashed for some Linux players under Proton. If you had graphics driver crashes on Windows, add --rendering-driver d3d12 to your Steam launch options.
