SCUM | August Update Preview: Enter a TEC1 Research Facility & Hunt Mutant Bears

The next Into the Wild update arrives on Tuesday, August 25, opening the way into an abandoned underground TEC1 Research Facility and expanding the hunt with mutant bears and new Master Hunter quests.

We’re also adding new Heatless Cooking recipes and overhauling Food Effects to make preparing a proper meal more rewarding.

Here’s what awaits:

ENTER A TEC1 RESEARCH FACILITY

Hidden inside converted underground bunkers across the Island are TEC1 Research Facilities once used to contain and study mutant wildlife.

To enter, you’ll need a Research Facility Keycard. Choose a location and come prepared. A timed purge sequence will begin once you’re inside, and you may not be the only prisoner there.

Make it to the heart of the Facility and you’ll discover what TEC1 has been keeping contained.

MUTANT BEARS & NEW QUESTS

The hunt begins above ground, where the Island’s largest predator is about to become even more dangerous.

Mutant bears will appear at specific locations across the Island.

Their arrival expands the Master Hunter questline with new challenges and exclusive rewards for experienced prisoners.

Complete the required quests to secure a Research Facility Keycard and gain access to a TEC1 Research Facility. Alternatively, take your chances searching for a keycard in the wild.

COOKING & FOOD EFFECTS

Put together a proper meal wherever you are.

New Heatless Cooking recipes will let you prepare meals like salads and sandwiches without any equipment.

Food Effects are getting a broader overhaul too, so what you eat will play a bigger role in survival. Keeping key nutrients at healthy levels can improve your endurance, recovery from injuries and resistance to sickness, while deficiencies can have the opposite effect.

Prepared and cooked meals will also require less energy to digest than most other foods, so taking the time to make one will pay off.
