IOSoccer Update - 6 October 2026

Reworked injury time

The final third is the last third of the pitch at each end. It starts roughly midway between the halfway line and the edge of the penalty area.

The half ends when:

• The ball is in midfield (outside both final thirds)

• The defending team clears the ball out of their final third

• The defending team has the ball under control for 1 second (a header or clearance doesn't count)

• The defending team gets a set piece (goal kick, throw-in or free kick)

• The keeper holds the ball for 1 second

• A goal is scored (after the celebration)

Play goes on for:

• An attack that's still going on in the final third

• Set pieces for the attacking team in the final third

Penalty after injury time has expired:

• The penalty is still taken, but the half ends as soon as the penalty is over (scored, saved or missed). No rebound goals.
