How Do We Know What Katmai Wolves Eat?

What first drew us to the Katmai Coast as the location for a WolfQuest Game expansion? It was research conducted by Ellen Dymit, a wildlife biologist and doctoral student who has been studying the diet of wolves along the coast (and who played WolfQuest when she was young!). Ellen's research forms the basis of this expansion, because while the life of wolves in Katmai is very similar to those elsewhere, their prey is almost completely different.

In today's devblog, Ellen talks about her research and explains how we know what the wolves of the Katmai coast eat. She uses a cutting-edge technique called Fecal DNA Metabarcoding to reveal in amazing detail what a wolf has eaten recently. The results have been surprising!
