Vanilla Events Expanded is one of our oldest mods, and I’m honestly shocked it’s holding up so well - it’s pretty resistant to game updates and bugs because of its simplicity. Back when I first made it with Kikohi, we didn’t know much about modding. I just wanted more events, and even made some art for some of them.

Now, I think it’s only proper we flesh it out more. This however doesn’t mean that we should go overboard and add thousands of new events, or some major system overhauls. The simplicity of this mod is what kept it so popular for years, and we should adhere to the same simplicity when redesigning it.

We have ensured that the remake is 100% mod compatible. Purple events have been overhauled to be event chains instead, giving you a rough idea how long until the event ends. Events that were broken or behaved weird before have been completely changed. We have also brought the storytelling more in-line with the base game - space battles have been replaced with orbital trader ship crashes, for example.

Several new events have also been added, enhancing the variety you are offered. I’m pretty proud of this remake and I hope you don’t find it too disruptive. I think we have improved the mod across the board.

Q: Can this mod be added to an existing save? A: Yes it can!

Q: I don’t like a particular event. How do I disable it? A: We have added a mod options menu that allows you to disable any and all events if you so desire.

Q: How often do purple events occur? A: They can only start occurring after 180 days have passed since the start of the colony. Then, once one appears, no new purple event will appear for 300 days.

Q: Can I set the purple events to be permanent effect? A: In scenario editor, you can set the permanent events to repeat every X amount of days, which will restart them every time the timer comes around.

Q: Will you keep updating the mod with new events? A: Potentially! The mod has a solid collection of events, but if we get a strike of inspiration, we will act on it!

Q: CE compatible? A: Potentially yes, but always check with CE team. We don’t patch our mods on our end.

Q: Can I disable specific event? A: Yes! In mod options you can alter the chance for events to appear - even lowering them to 0!
