What is a gyroscope

A gyroscope is an instrument that can measure in what direction it is rotated. This helps vehicles in finding the counter-rotation they need to rotate back to a perfectly upright position.

Degree of rotation

This gyroscope separates the degree of rotation into 4 levels. Depending on the current degree of rotation (doesn't matter which direction) it will activate one of the colored logic gates to display its current rotational state.

1. Green logic gate: perfectly balanced (0°)

2. Blue logic gate: slightly tilted (1° to 20°)

3. Orange logic gate: moderately tilted (21° to 50°)

4. Red logic gate: severely tilted (51° or more)

Direction of rotation

Like all gyroscopes, this gyroscope displays in which direction it is rotated, and also to what degree. This is displayed with one of the light and dark grey logic gates facing north, east, south, and west.

• Light grey: slightly tilted (1° to 20°)

• Dark grey: moderately tilted (21° to 50°)

IMPORTANT: Turn on white logic gate/switch to make them active!

Rotational correction system

The light and dark grey logic gates are meant to be connected to a rotational correction system that can do weak and strong corrections (which is why this is called a 2-step gyroscope). Having 2 different correction strengths reduces overswings (oscillation) during the correction process.

A rotational correction system, which isn't included with this gyroscope, is conventionally made with thrusters or suspension glitches to rotate a vehicle into one of the four desired directions. Without one, a gyroscope serves no purpose.
