After WW1, Greece and the allies decided to declare war on the declining Ottomans. The Pontic greeks that wanted so long to break free from Ottoman rule saw this campaign as an oportunity to rebel and break free from the Turks. Even though Greece had failed in the anatolian campaign, the Pontic greeks together with some Armenian Militias with help from the Soviets in exchange for Armenia finally achieved their independence. But things were not looking bright for Pontus. Even though their rebellion was succesful, the country did not have a leader. And that is when E. Venizelos, an exiled politician from Greece decided to step in. And that is how Pontus came to be.
