Imagine a world where the Industrial Revolution did not happen. Where Western Europe could not stop the Ottomans at Vienna and had to rally at Leipzig. The ordinary men and women around the world still toil at their fields with tools not much more advanced than those available at the neolithic ages. Powerful lords inhabit castle built upon rocky outcrops surveying their serfs whilte the countryside is frequented by a myriads of bandits. The cities are dark and dirty, where cholera and the plague routinely kill people. The Orient is not declining but in full activity, with Constantinople, Alexandria, Aleppo and Baghdad being some of the worlds most powerful cities. The Americas are composed of untamed tribes living very much like their forebears and the few European colonies that do exist struggle to survive. Such is the world of A.E.I.O.U. 1886...

But it is progress that keeps the cogs of History turning. Man has always progressed and always he shall do so. It is in the sleepy hills of Bohemia that the next revolution in history will happen. A man whose intellect and brilliance can only be compared to Aristotle, da Vinci and Newton, Nikola Tesla, has happened to have discovered the steam engine. Soon the world will change and will be filled with the thick black smoke of the factories and of the coveted facade of "civilization".

The lore of AEIOU 1886 was made entirely by our team. Originally inspired to make a mod where the Habsburg family would dominate the world, we quickly came to the conclusion that we could take it one step further and create something completely new and original. This is where we devised that the industrial revolution would be delayed for a century and feudalism and serfdom would still remain prevalent. The lore contains several PoDs throughout the past, mostly between the 1400s to the 1600s. The most important one is that the Timurid Invasion had less of an effect on the Ottomans, allowing them to capture Constantinople quicker and project themselves into Europe. The Ottomans Wars were very brutal resulting in delaying the renaissance and the preservation of chivalry. The resulting world was that of AEIOU 1886.

Yet AEIOU 1886 is not about the preservation of chivalry, but about change. In 1886 the steam engine is to be invented in Bohemia, and industrialization is already starting to take gear. The forces of the nobility and clergy that controlled Europe are now facing the attack of liberals and nationalists. The world is changing, and you will decide how it will change! You are thrust as the leader of a country and you are free to do whatever you please, or to follow the storyline that we will create. If you want to spread Catholicism as Spain, do it! If you want to secularize everything as England, do it! You are free, and you can help create lore for the mod.
