Overview

Transport planes don't always play a role in Hearts of Iron IV, but when they do, they can be the backbone of some interesting plays, from keeping your armies supplied as they blitz across the plains while the engineers are slacking on converting the freshly captured railroads to behind-the-lines shenanigans with a wave of paratroopers. Unfortunately, transports in vanilla HOI4 are pretty mild, and you don't really have any options to improve them.

That's where Upgradeable Transport Planes comes in. UTP gives you the ability to use the basic designer/upgrader to improve the armor, range, engines, and reliability of your transports in a similar vein to mechanized infantry vehicles in exchange for air XP.

UTP is not the first mod to do this. In fact, there are already several on the Steam Workshop out there. However, most, if not all, of them have been broken with 1.12 and the release of BBA. UTP solves that by being up-to-date with 1.12+ air equipment definitions, making them function properly again.

It should be noted that UTP may not work fully on existing saves, especially if you're intending to use it to replace an older upgradeable transports mod which broke.

Mod Compatibility

This mod changes a vanilla file which, as of 1.15.4, is only used to define transport planes. This mod should be compatible with any mod that does NOT change transport planes in any way.

It is possible to have compatibility issues with mods that make changes to airplanes in general in the event that mod happens to use the same file to add custom planes. Be sure to test your mods before starting your campaigns!

DLC Requirements

This mod does not rely on any DLC features, so you should not need any DLCs.

Credits & Technical Info

This mod was inspired by Buffed Transport Planes by ConfidencialNivelHF4. His mod works very similarly, but it hasn't been updated for 1.12 & BBA, causing an issue where transport air wings were completely unusable.

This mod changes/replaces one file:

common/units/equipment/quad_engine_airframe.txt

All lines that were commented out in the vanilla version of this file as of 1.15.4 have been deleted. The only meaningful changes are adding upgrades to the transport plane archetype and the transport plane equipment definitions.
