Описание автора
Tiles Galore is built around the idea that a larger province map should create more operational choices rather than merely making fronts look busier. A campaign can now hinge on a narrow gap in the line, a river crossing, a forest corridor, a mountain approach, a rail connection, or a small cluster of provinces that would previously have been represented by one oversized tile.
The Battlefield of Tiles Galore
With more provinces, warfare becomes less about pushing across a handful of giant regions and more about creating and exploiting local advantages.
A successful offensive is no longer simply about winning one large battle. You can search for weak points, create limited breakthroughs, widen a breach, secure flanks, seize crossings, cut supply routes, and close an encirclement before the enemy can react.
Dense forests, wide plains, deserts, mountains, and coastlines all become more operationally important in a finer map structure.
-
Forests can conceal a defensive screen, slow an advance, or create a difficult route for armour.
-
Plains offer more room for mobile warfare, spearheads, counterattacks, and wide encirclements.
-
Deserts become larger supply and infrastructure challenges, where isolated advances can be punished.
-
Mountains offer more defensive positions and more difficult approaches for mechanised forces.
-
Rivers and coastlines gain added importance as defensive barriers, invasion fronts, and local manoeuvre routes.
Every new province can be a staging point for a breakthrough, a defensive strongpoint, a temporary fallback position, a supply bottleneck, or the final tile needed to trap an enemy army.
Operational Warfare and Battle Planning
Tiles Galore gives greater importance to the operational layer of Hearts of Iron IV.
Front lines require more attention. A successful player must decide where to concentrate divisions, where to hold thinly, where to prepare reserves, and where a small retreat may create a stronger defensive position.
The expanded map rewards:
-
Encirclements: Identify weak sectors, cut off enemy forces, and close the pocket before they can escape.
-
Breakthroughs: Concentrate force at a decisive point rather than spreading armour across an entire front.
-
Defence in depth: Trade space for time, fall back through prepared positions, and preserve divisions for counterattacks.
-
Spearheads: Use mobile forces to drive through gaps, seize crossings, and threaten supply networks.
-
Local counterattacks: Punish overextended enemy divisions before a limited advance becomes a major breakthrough.
-
Supply warfare: Protect infrastructure, rail connections, hubs, and the routes that keep an army in the field.
Rapid-response formations, armour, motorised units, specialist infantry, and defensive reserves all gain more distinct roles when the map offers more possible routes and more local terrain decisions.
A More Detailed World at War
Tiles Galore: Expanded Provinces turns the world map into a more detailed theatre of war without changing the core identity of Hearts of Iron IV.
The expanded province network creates more room for historical campaigns, alternative strategies, desperate defensive stands, deep armoured thrusts, coastal operations, and the kind of local manoeuvre that can decide an entire war.
Whether you are defending Eastern Europe, crossing the Sahara, invading an island chain, fighting through mountains, or trying to hold a collapsing front, the map now gives you more decisions to make and more ways to outplay the enemy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What areas have been expanded?
The current version expands the world almost completely. The remaining unexpanded areas are:
-
New Zealand
-
Norway
-
Sweden
-
Finland
Can I use other mods with this one?
Tiles Galore should work best with mods that do not alter the map or rely on vanilla province layouts.
Mods that replace or edit provinces.bmp, definition.csv, states, strategic regions, railways, supply data, map assets, or province-specific history will likely conflict. Total conversions and other map overhauls should be assumed incompatible unless a dedicated compatibility patch exists.
Will this work with old saves?
A new campaign is strongly recommended after major map updates. Province changes can affect saved games, unit positions, ownership data, railways, supply, states, and scripted content.
Does the mod affect performance?
A larger province count means the game has more map connections, pathfinding choices, front-line segments, and local calculations to process. Actual performance will vary based on your hardware, the number of divisions in the world, AI activity, other installed mods, and the scenario being played.
The mod is designed to provide a denser strategic map while remaining focused on province expansion rather than becoming a full total conversion.
