Better Mechanics: Topographic GFX Rework

A darker, sharper blend of Better Mechanics: GFX Rework and Military Topographic Map, built to keep the atmosphere and readability of Better Mechanics while bringing in the tactical, paper-map character of a military topographic map.

This started from a simple idea in the comments: the topographic map looked great, but could use more depth, darker political colors, and a stronger blend with Better Mechanics’ visual style.

• Combines Better Mechanics’ darker GFX style with Military Topographic Map’s terrain look

• Keeps Better Mechanics’ lighting, borders, water, post effects, buildings, trees, and shader feel

• Uses topographic terrain, reflection, underwater, and railroad textures

• Adds a subtle height/slope-based mountain relief pass for better terrain depth

• Darkens the overall political-map feel without making the map unreadable

• Preserves the clean strategic readability of HOI4

Visual Goal

The goal is not to make HOI4 look flashy or overprocessed.

The goal is a map that feels:

• Darker

• More military

• More textured

• Less flat

• Still readable during actual gameplay

This is a graphics-only mod.

It should be compatible with most gameplay mods unless they also replace major map, terrain, shader, or GFX files.

Recommended Usage

Use this mod instead of loading the two source mods together.

Do not enable:

• Better Mechanics: GFX Rework

• Military Topographic Map

at the same time as this combined version, unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Notes

If you experience flickering or weird graphical behavior, try switching from DX11 to DX9 in the launcher.
