Vanilla and More Units

DLC: Runs on a bare install. Two models only - the Sd.Kfz. 222 on the armoured cars and the elephant - come from La Resistance and Graveyard of Empires respectively. Without those DLCs the unit still works and still fights, it just draws no vehicle or animal. No DLC files are included in this mod.

32 new land battalions. Every one available to every country.

Vanilla gives you rangers, mountaineers, marines and paratroopers, and then it stops. There is no mountain artillery. No desert division. No assault infantry for cracking forts. No way to put a handful of tanks into a rifle battalion.

This mod fills those gaps - with proper 3D models and counter icons, not placeholder art.

Nothing here is locked to a nation. Play Siam, Bolivia or Ethiopia and you get exactly what Germany gets. All 66 unit models are country-agnostic by design.

What you get

Infantry

  • Light, Heavy, Garrison and Home Guard battalions

  • Shock Troops - hand-picked assault infantry. Enormous breakthrough, the answer to forts and fortified cities, and priced accordingly

  • Desert Infantry - acclimatises to heat far faster than line infantry, fights hard in desert and open plains

  • Pack Infantry - everything rides on mules. Slow and soft, but almost no supply need and it crosses ground nothing else can

  • Infantry with Light / Medium / Heavy / Modern Tanks - rifle battalions with real armour attached

Mountain and Ranger families

  • Mounted, Armoured Car and Light Tank versions of both

  • Mountain Artillery and Pack Artillery - guns that actually go up the slope instead of being dragged along behind

  • Mountain Anti-Air - light flak that follows the column off the road

  • Mountaineer Ranger Recon - the best reconnaissance available in hills, mountains and forest

  • Elephant Mountaineers - because Hannibal did it first

Desert warfare

  • Desert Infantry, Motorized, Mechanized and Light Tanks

  • A full theatre army for North Africa, the Middle East or anywhere the map turns yellow

Support companies

  • Forward, Semi-Armored and Armored Headquarters

  • Reserve Personnel, Light Support Company, Mechanized Recon

Nothing to click

Every battalion unlocks itself the moment you have the vanilla technology for it. Rangers I gives you the ranger units. Light tanks give you the tank infantry. Nothing new appears in your tech tree, and there is no activation decision to remember.

Two DLC traps are handled for you:

  • Arms Against Tyranny hides tech_special_forces completely, so anything gated behind it can never be researched. The desert family unlocks from Rangers I instead.

  • No Step Back renamed every tank chassis technology. Every tank gate accepts both the old and new names, so it works with and without NSB.

Special forces

13 units count against your special forces cap - the ranger and mountaineer families, plus Desert Infantry and Shock Troops.

19 do not, including Pack Infantry and the whole desert vehicle line, so you can equip an entire desert theatre without eating cap slots.

The cap itself is raised well above vanilla (0.25 per battalion / 100 minimum, against vanilla's 0.05 / 24). One line in common/defines/47_defines.lua if you want it different.

Armoured cars, rebalanced

Vanilla armoured cars cost as much as a medium tank battalion and die to a stiff breeze. Equipment prices are untouched - instead the battalion needs fewer of them, and the early cars finally penetrate something:

  • Battalion equipment need 60 to 40 (330 to 220 IC)

  • Armour penetration 8 to 24 on the standard car, 6 to 16 on the Great War car

  • Breakthrough 16 to 20, suppression 2.5 to 3.0

Compatibility

This mod adds files rather than replacing them, so it should sit happily alongside most content mods.

It deliberately changes two vanilla files:

  • the armoured car battalion (the rebalance above)

  • the defines file (the special forces cap)

It will conflict with any mod that also replaces those two.

** This mod disables achievements. ** It changes a defines file to raise the special forces cap, and Paradox treats any defines change as checksum-breaking. Ironman still works and your saves are fine - you simply will not earn achievements while it is enabled.

Languages: Full English, German, French and Spanish. Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese have partial coverage and fall back to English for the rest.

DLC: Runs on a bare install. Two models only - the Sd.Kfz. 222 on the armoured cars and the elephant - come from La Resistance and Graveyard of Empires respectively. Credits

This mod stands on the work of other modders. It would not exist without them, and if you like what is here you should subscribe to the originals too.

  • Better Infantry Units Several of the line battalions, including the Light Infantry Battalion. The BIU_ prefix used throughout this mod's files comes from here.

  • More Support Companies & HQ Support Companies Several of the support battalions and the HQ company concept.

  • Armored Car Rebalance The armoured car rework is used in full - equipment need, armour penetration, breakthrough and suppression are all theirs.

  • GERMANIA Several of the unit skins. The Afrikakorps, SS grenadier, Gebirgsjaeger, Fallschirmjaeger and gun crew models come from this pack.

  • The Road to 56 Counter icon artwork. The Desert Infantry, Shock Troops and Mechanized Shock Troops icons are theirs, and their palm and special-forces marks were reused on the desert vehicle icons. Adapted into this mod's own files, so Road to 56 does not need to be enabled.

All original authors keep credit for their work. If you recognise something of yours here and would like it credited differently, or removed, message me and it will be handled straight away.

Feedback

Balance opinions welcome, especially on Shock Troops and the desert family. If a unit feels wrong, say which one and what it was doing at the time - that is far more useful than a number.
