The story takes place before Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame were born.

After the death of the previous Hakurei shrine maiden, the Great Hakurei Barrier loses its foundation. The youkai are not dying on the battlefield. They are slowly being forgotten by the Outside World: their names fade from memory, their legends fall silent, and eventually no one can prove that they ever existed.

Yukari Yakumo and the other powers of Gensokyo are left with only one choice: enter the Outside World and seize a land where the youkai can continue to exist.

However, when the Japanese Empire falls, the wartime alliance collapses with it.

The youkai have won their war for survival. Now they must answer a far more dangerous question:

Who should decide the future of Gensokyo?

Four Major Routes

Yukari Yakumo—Rebuild the Order of Gensokyo

The previous shrine maiden is dead, but the duty of protecting Gensokyo remains.

Yukari, Ran, and Chen will reorganize the government, repair the Great Hakurei Barrier, and establish a new order. The player must maintain a delicate balance between Eientei and Hakugyokurou, manage conflicts between youkai, humans, and spirits, and decide the future of Gensokyo.

As the Barrier gradually recovers, the threat from the Lunar Capital will emerge. Gensokyo must unite its military, diplomacy, and resources to confront the Lunarians who intend to redefine its fate.

Remilia Scarlet—Bring the World Beneath the Scarlet Mist

The Scarlet Devil Mansion will no longer remain an isolated estate. It will become the center of a nation, an army, and a new royal order.

Use the prestige and unique abilities of Sakuya, Meiling, Flandre, Patchouli, and Remilia to build an army, intelligence network, and administrative system.

But reorganizing the mansion is only the beginning.

Remilia will march west from East Asia and return to the Europe she was once forced to abandon. This time, she will not return as an exile, but as a scarlet queen prepared to drag fate itself down from its throne.

Byakuren Hijiri—Build Coexistence Upon the Ruins

Myouren Temple is not an order made up of perfect and virtuous people.

Through the Five Precepts and disciple missions, Byakuren must guide Nazrin, Ichirin, Shou, Murasa, and Kyouko as they confront their own flaws.

The player can promote peace, oppose slavery, and build a society based on mutual aid and education. Yet salvation may gradually become a new order that no one is permitted to refuse.

Byakuren will offer a hand, but she will not live another person's life.

Her path may lead to coexistence, reconstruction, and peace—or to a system that imposes salvation upon the world.

Seija Kijin—Keep the Revolution Moving

Seija is not merely an amanojaku who enjoys causing trouble.

She believes that oppression, class hierarchy, and entrenched power must be overthrown. She also fears that new rulers will rise after the revolution succeeds. She does not want to sit upon the old throne; she wants to make the throne itself meaningless.

Together with Sekibanki, Kagerou Imaizumi, Wakasagihime, and other grassroots youkai, the player must rebuild the nation, redistribute land and food, establish mutual-aid workshops, and choose between popular autonomy and centralized party leadership.

As the new state takes shape, Seija must confront ethnic conflict, resource shortages, and the corruption of revolutionary ideals. The revolution may become a genuine movement for equality—or merely replace one group of oppressors with another.

Development Status: Full Release

The main story, all four major routes, and the principal gameplay systems of Gensokyo: Coexistence or Extinction are complete. Future updates will focus on:

• Quality-of-life and interface improvements.

• Compatibility with future game versions.

• Bug fixes and balance adjustments.

• Improvements to text, artwork, and localization.

• Additional content built upon the existing structure.

The existing routes will not receive any further large-scale reworks. The developer will now begin work on a larger new project. Please look forward to it.
