The 1950's to the 1990's for Formula 1 were times of true innovation, where people could truly assemble the fastest cars possible. The name of the sport was invention, and a number of innovations were introduced over the years. Turbines, steam power, 6 wheels, ground effect, traction control, and more.
In modern Formula 1, the restrictions are more dense than a phone book, and the once-known great leaps in automotive technology have been lost. That still hasn't stopped engineers from imagining a world where these restrictions never happened. Where steam cars run endurance, where 8 wheels are the norm, and where the sport is truly all about innovation.
This F1 car design was my take on that idea. If F1 truly had none of the restrictions on vehicle type for non-safety reasons, I think Formula 1 cars would look quite a bit more like these. Although fans were great in the 1980's, they are rather bulky for modern cars which try to reduce their mass by any means possible. Overzealous aero eventually also becomes more weight than downforce, so I picture cars with smaller wings and a thinner body. On the sides, rather than the back, lie the powerhouses. Two helicopter-like turbines rigged to the same gearbox to match eachothers' timing. Even if one turbine for some reason becomes restricted, the other turbine would be able to compensate, similar to a commercial jet.
In the back is the exhaust, a massive block-like vent that allows for all exhaust gases to leave the engines without issue. The two pipes leading from each engine slightly thin out and converge in the one location: Right above the rear wheels. The angle of the jet exhaust allows for maximum downforce without the exhaust interrupting the airflow of the car itself, and the angle also permits a bit of extra power forward, no matter how minuscule. In the very back, with such open space, would be electronics of all sorts. Lights, traction control, thrust control, and gear timing assist. These systems would make the car safer, more efficient, and faster around tight turns without risking grip.
The Brick Rigs car itself is a true speed demon. Although there is no real turbine power for cars in the game yet, the engine inside this car is tuned for acceleration. It has a top speed of 248 MPH, and can take turns rather quickly. It also contains an air brake, so braking is faster and more reliable.
To use the pitstop light, press Q. It will begin to rapidly flash, signifying that you are making your way to the pits for repairs.
