FFNF Jean Bart

(when moving, do NOT use handbrake to stop the ship as that will most of the times cause some wheels to fall off)

This is my first detailed build in BR, and also a pretty big build in general, so forgive me if some part could have been done better.

Total build time: around 40 hours with all the modifications

In-game model features:

• rangefinders turn with corresponding turrets

• lots of moving parts

• semi accurate gun models

• rotating radar systems (purely decorative)

• a semi-smooth hull that is mostly accurate to the original

• can move as fast as (or faster than) the real FFNF Jean Bart at 32 knots

• realistic turning

Some history:

Battleship Jean Bart was the second ship of the Richelieu class of battleships planned for the French Navy before WWII, and the only sister ship of Richelieu. Her keep was laid down in 1936 in a shipyard in Sain-Nazaire. She is considered to be one of the last battleships to be ever built (a spot that is commonly taken by the HMS Vanguard, which is the last battleship to be ever laid down), and is the last battleship to be completed and commissioned by any navy. She had an uninteresting career during the WWII as she was confined in ports for most of the time and frequently bombarded by US and British forces; one notable encounter was when she faced off against the USS Massachusetts during Operation Torch in Casablanca, which left the incomplete ship (incomplete superstructure, no rangefinders were installed, superfiring gun un-operational) to be heavily damaged. The ship was later handed over to the Free French Naval Forces after the fall of Vichy France, and work on repairs and completion were made. Unfortunately the ship was mostly incomplete and only entered service in 1955, 10 years after the war in Europe ended. She was struck from the naval register in 1970 and sold for scraps.

Jean Bart's choice of armaments were different from that of her sistership Richelieu (as per Richelieu in 1943 after her refits in the US). Jean Bart was fitted with newer 57mm Bofors mounts as opposed to Richelieu's combination of 40mm and 20mm mounts, the utilization of newer AA guns resulted in significantly better AA performance.

Jean Bart also sports a different superstructure design compared to her sister, which allowed her to carry a much more advanced suite of targeting equipment.

The hull of the ship is standard of a Richelieu class of battleship, with enough armor to withstand shells up to 380mm. She was 248m long and 33m wide historically, and once completed displaced around 43052 tons (compared to the original designed 37250t under naval treaties), she was lighter than her US refitted sister by 902 tons.

The main armaments of the Richelieus were uniquely placed in an all forward position in two superfiring turrets each carrying 4 380mm barrels, this allows the ship to bring all of it's firepower to bare without having to take risks by showing it's side. This however made retreats harder as the ships would not be able to use any of it's main guns when running away, thankfully, this is much mitigated by the inclusion of 3x3 152mm secondary mounts all found facing the back of the ship. The ship is also armed with numerous 100mm dual-purpose mounts and 57mm AA mounts.

Controls:

• driver: controls main guns (alt view pitch& yaw), drives (duh)

• second seat (next to driver): controls small caliber secondaries and AA guns, normal view pitch and yaw for port side AA, alt view pitch and yaw for starboard AA, steering and throttle for stern AA

• third seat (under smoke stack): controls large caliber secondaries (alt view pitch& yaw)
