2021 IMW Formula Street World Tour 820-1

After the Coronavirus debacle of 2020, Formula Street’s inaugural season was moved to 2021. This car was originally designed for 2020, but wasn’t able to be built until 2021. Meanwhile, the team was busy building ventilators. When that was over, they got back to the car.

The car competes in the World Tour series, which has a 50% fuel flow rate limit above every National series. Compared to the National series, the World Tour series has a larger calendar (16 vs <=12). Cars run with tyres that don’t rubber in or produce marbles, allowing the entire track to have a similar amount of grip. Downforce isn’t that strong, but it doesn’t produce dirty air that can reduce downforce for following cars.

The 820-1 weighs 1942lbs, or 882kg, making it another heavy car. In most respects, it is similar to the H Motors’ FSWT01, being heavy with high downforce, but with tweaked aero. This is because both companies have a long history of collaboration, and hold small shares in each other. However, the 820-1’s engine is a different beast. It’s a 1.8L single turbo V6 that produces up to 500hp, thanks to FreeValve technology. This gives the vehicle a diverse range of engine settings from fuel saving, to push-to-pass.

Handling the car, like the Ferias, is easy, but very understeery.
