Uintah Railway Locomotive #51 was built for the Uintah Railway of Utah and Western Colorado by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1928. It's sister locomotive, Locomotive #50 was completed 2 years prior. These engines were designed for the tight turns and extreme grades of the Uintah Railway, which mainly carried Gilsonite, a mineral with many applications in various products.
Locomotives #50 and #51 were later sold to the Sumpter Valley Railway in Oregon after the Uintah Railway faced bankruptcy. There, they were renumbered to be #250 & #251 respectively, and were used for logging operations until 1961, when the Sumpter Valley Railway also went bankrupt.
The two locomotives were then sold to International Railways of South America in Guatemala before both engines were scrapped, Locomotive #251 in 1962, and Locomotive #250 in 1964.
