[b]The Hummer H1 is a civilian off-road vehicle based on the M998 Humvee, which was created by AM General. The car was produced from 1992 to 2006, and was the first produced in the Hummer model line. Initially known only as the "Hummer", however in 2002, in a joint venture between General Motors and AM General, GM began selling the Hummer H2, which was built on a Chevrolet Tahoe chassis. It was at this point that Hummer received the designation H1. For collectors, the most desirable model is the H1 Alpha, produced in its last model year, 2006. The model featured the most powerful engine and, consequently, outstanding fuel consumption in the model line. Overall, the H1 model had a very limited vehicle production.
Originally developed exclusively for military use, the all-wheel drive SUV was released to the civilian market due to strong demand. With 16 inches (40 cm) of ground clearance, and wide-set wheels at the corners of the body, coupled with a high angle of ascent and descent from slopes, the Hummer can climb 22 inches (56 cm) of obstacle height, cope with a 60-degree slope and cross fords up to 30 inches (76 cm) deep[1].[b]
