[b]The BMW 3-series (E36) is the third generation of the 3-series passenger cars of the German automaker BMW, produced from 1990 to 2000. Models of this generation became larger, received an elegant streamlined body and were originally created as four-door, as opposed to the mainly two-door cars of the second generation.
The production of four-door sedans (German: Limousine) began at the end of 1990. In 1992, the production of two-door coupes (German: Coupé) began, and in 1993, open convertibles (German: Cabrio) appeared. A shortened version of the car with a three-door, with a large rear door, a hatchback body (German: Compact) appeared at the end of 1993, and a roomy station wagon (German: Touring) began to be produced starting in 1995. A sporty version of the M3 appeared in 1992, initially as a coupe. Convertible and sedan models joined in 1994.
