EMD E9 - Southern Railroad 'Southern Crescent'

The EMD E-Unit series Is usually overshadowed by its smaller, 4-axle general purpose cousins the F Units, however it was actually the E's which were first released to market, with the F's being derivitives of the EMD TA, which itself was based on the original EA. E units were built specially to haul long distance passenger trains at high speeds. The E unit Family has some design features that make them rather odd by today's standard. Their A1A-A1A wheel arrangement meant that the center axle on each truck was unpowered, only to carry the weight of the locomotive. (meaning despite the larger size, they still had the same number of drivers as the F's) They needed they extra support because of the other quirk, the fact that they had 2 V12 diesel engines instead of the single V16 of the F-units. The original EAs were rated to 1800hp, and later models steadily improved that power up to the 2400hp of the E9.

This model is in the beautiful Green, Gold and white of the Southern railroad's Southern Crescent passenger service.

Just like the Santafe F7, I will NOT be making matching coaches for this train, but I would be more than happy to link here and promote anyone who wants to make some! Perhaps someday ill get to it, but i have other projects i want to build and I only have so much time unfortunately
