Third reich's light tank destroyer, The Krupp-Steyr Waffenträger was an experimental German self-propelled artillery vehicle developed during the late stages of World War II. It was part of the German program to create cheap and mobile tank destroyers. Built on a light tractor chassis with an open-top design, it was armed with the powerful 88mm anti-tank gun. The main goal was to provide the Wehrmacht with a mobile fire support platform that could be quickly relocated and allowed the main gun to be dismounted and used separately.

Usage Tips: The Krupp-Steyr Waffenträger is best used as a support or ambush vehicle. Due to its minimal armor and open-top construction, it is completely unsuitable for close-range engagements or frontal assaults. It performs best at long ranges—thanks to its powerful 88mm gun, it can destroy most enemy vehicles with a single shot. However, it requires good concealment and a quick withdrawal plan after firing.
Additional Information: Historical Background The Krupp-Steyr Waffenträger project was part of Germany’s "Waffenträger" (weapons carrier) initiative—focused on developing low-cost, easily manufactured vehicles with heavy armament. Krupp and Steyr collaborated to create a platform capable of dismounting its gun so it could be used independently from the vehicle. The project remained at the prototype stage, and mass production was never initiated. The most well-known prototype was built in 1944 and used for testing. It is considered one of the early examples of the modular SPG concept.
