This is not a replica of a real version of the YaK-23, this is a replica of a fictional modernization of the YaK-23, which the differences will be mentioned later.

History:

In 1953, Yakovlev put up a concept design for a modernized YaK-23. This variant would primarily add an afterburner to the engine which increased the maximum thrust from 15.6Kn to 22Kn which increased the acceleration immensly, but the top speed did not change drastically. Furthermore this design implemented a new pressurized cockpit allowing for a higher altitude cieling. As a result of these upgrades the plane ended up being slightly longer and a bit heavier. The proportions also changed slightly with the exhaust nozzle being mounted a bit further back. The overall weight of the plane increased by around 500kg which increased the takeoff speed and distance due to the practical reduction in lift.

In 1954 the first prototype was constructed and following test flights showed good results, it was also deemed possible for the Yak-23-2 to carry ordonance such as bombs. In the spring of 1955 the Tbilis factory was tasked with the production of 250 YaK-23-2 aircraft, of which 190 were built before the project was cancelled.

It was seen as an overall victory for the soviet aircraft industry as they gained valuable experience working with afterburning engines.

This plane was extremely fun to make and a bit of a challenge indeed, I'm very pleased with the end result and i think the interior turned out very well, though i do yearn a bit for some more exterior detail, but i wanted to keep it under 1000 bricks.
