The Ka-52 Alligator is a new generation Russian reconnaissance and attack helicopter. The machine is capable of destroying armored and unarmored vehicles, manpower, and air targets on the battlefield. It is a further development of the Ka-50 Black Shark helicopter.

Before the Ka-50 ceased serial production in 2009, the specific combat use of the Ka-52 included its performance as a command vehicle for army aviation, performing reconnaissance of the terrain, target designation and coordination of the actions of a group of combat helicopters. In addition to performing reconnaissance and combat functions, the Ka-52 can serve as a training machine.

Production history

The first flight prototype of the Ka-52 helicopter, which received the onboard number 061, was converted by the beginning of November 1996 from a serial Ka-50 (the 11th flight model, which previously had the onboard number 021 and the "exhibition" number H317). On June 25, 1997, the first flight of the flight prototype in hover mode took place, and on August 13, 1997, it made its first flight in a circle..

In 2008, two more experimental Ka-52 helicopters (tail numbers 062 and 063) were built at the Progress aircraft plant, the first of which made its maiden flight on June 27, 2008. Flight tests of the second of them, the pre-production Ka-52 (tail number 063), began in October 2008.

On October 29, 2008, serial production of Alligators was launched at the Progress plant; assembly of the first three serial helicopters of the pilot batch began.

In May 2011, the Ka-52 entered service with the Army Aviation line unit. On May 19, 2011, Major Andrey Evgenievich Volkov, deputy commander of the helicopter squadron, ferried the first Ka-52 helicopter from the pilot batch from the Progress plant to the 575th Army Aviation Base (Chernigovka airfield).

On October 23, 2012, the state joint tests of the optical-location station were successfully completed
