SLAM-9

The SLAM-9 (Surface-Launched Air Missile) was prototyped after the introduction of the Block II AIM-9X in 2008 and saw success in intercepting helicopters, low flying strike aircraft, drones, and less reliably, fighter aircraft. The trailered design gave the unit great flexibility as it could be taken anywhere a Humvee could drive. The SLAM-9 entered service with the U.S. Army in 2013 and saw moderate use in the Syrian civil war, and more recently in the Russo-Ukrainian war to intercept drones.

The trailer system holds three AIM-9X specially modified for surface launches and an integrated passive optical search and track system able to track a fighter-sized object out to a range of ~6km. The fire control system allows either automatic fire once launch parameters have been met, or manual boresight launches.

How to use

Manual launch:

• Place aircraft as close to the dot as possible. Orange lights means the target is on the center dot.
• Optional: Press B to begin tracking
• Fire.

Automatic launch:

• Track target
• Press K to authorize automatic launches
• Wait for the target to cross the center dot, lights will illuminate, missile(s) will fire

Known bug
