History

2K26"Lavina" (Object 312) is a modern air defense missile-gun complex, created on the T-73M MBT's hull. Lavina's developing department of the Escad Corp. is design bureau "Rubezh". Two prototypes of the newest complex were first presented in the middle of 2011 at "OboronProm-11" exhibition- Object 312-1 "Lavina" and Object 312-2 "Snegopad". Lavina was a variant of the complex for domestic market and Snegopad was an export variant, made by initiative of the above-mentioned design bureau "Rubezh" especially for middle east buyers. Since by the 2011 there was only 30 T-73M tanks, it was decided to close manufacturing of the T-73A MBT and re-forming it into modernizing T-73A up to T-73M. Thanks to that, just in 3 years the number of "Echelons" (T-73M) was raised up to 150. Some of the hulls were used for unknown experimental vehicles, and 12- for re-configuration into 2K26 "Lavina". The development itself started in 2007, but "Lavina" had its TTC (tactical-technical characteristics) by 2010. In 2012 the building and commissioning of the new wing of the tank plant in Nizhniy Tagil that was specializing on working with vehicles on the "Echelon" hull was finished. Building of the Lavina and Snegopad was increased. After entering service, it was known that 21 2K27 "Snegopad" were sold to Iran. After the great war critical plants were destroyed and therefore, building of tanks was almost paralized. But some plants were not damaged and tanks kept being produced. By 2043, there is known about more than 200 2K26 in service, including other armed forces, who were advertised to by "Lavina" because of trouble times for military export.
