History
SAV 20.12.48 (Swedish: stormartillerivagn, 20 ton, 12 cm, model 1948) is an experimental Swedish self-propelled gun developed by Bofors in the second half of the 1940s. At the time, Bofors intended to create a new-generation infantry support self-propelled gun, for which a shortened 120 mm naval gun with part of a naval automatic loading system was mounted on a tank chassis. A gun of the same type but of a different length can be found on Öland-class destroyers. The vehicle underwent trials in 1949, but it did not impress the Swedish Army due to its performance and high cost, and further work on the machine was discontinued. The infantry support self-propelled gun role was taken over by the Ikv 72 and Ikv 102 because of their simplicity and low production costs. The subsequent fate of the built prototype is unknown.
