The FAB-9000 is a Soviet super-heavy high-explosive aerial bomb (weight ~9.4 tons, TNT equivalent ~4.3 tons) designed to destroy large industrial and military targets. One of the most powerful non-nuclear bombs in the Russian Federation’s arsenal, developed in the 1950s, it generates a shock wave with a continuous kill radius of 55–70 meters.

Main characteristics of the FAB-9000-M54: Weight: approximately 9,400 kg (approximately 9.4 tons). Explosive weight: approximately 4,297 kg of TNT. Length: >5 meters, body diameter: 1.2 meters. Effect: Contact fuses; penetrates thick ceilings; creates craters of enormous diameter. Deployment and delivery systems: History: Actively used by Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War (from Tu-22s). Current status: Theoretically, it can be deployed from Tu-22M3, Tu-95, or Tu-160 bombers, but under modern conditions, the high vulnerability of the delivery systems limits its use. Effectiveness: Considered an analogue of American heavy munitions (“the father of all bombs”) for destroying bunkers and fortified areas.
The FAB-9000 has no built-in guidance system (unlike modern guided bombs); its effectiveness is achieved through the enormous mass of explosive material.
