HISTORY
The Sukhoi Su-30SM is a Russian heavy, 4++ generation twin-engine, two-seat multirole fighter designed for air superiority, ground attack, and maritime strike operations. Developed by the Irkut Corporation, the aircraft features canards and thrust-vectoring engines for super-maneuverability, a multi-channel radar system, and 12 external hardpoints capable of carrying up to 8,000 kg of combat payload. The type is in active service with both the Russian Aerospace Forces and naval aviation units, as well as several international operators.
The modernized Su-30SM2 variant introduces significant upgrades by standardizing key components with the Su-35S fighter. It is equipped with more powerful AL-41F1S engines that increase thrust by 16% and improve fuel efficiency, alongside an upgraded radar system that doubles target detection range. The avionics suite is fully revised with domestic components, and the weapons matrix is expanded to include new long-range precision-guided missiles and standoff weapons for enhanced electronic warfare and suppression of enemy air defenses.
