Information
Made out of plywood, the Higgins boat was a landing craft that saw extensive service in World War two in all theaters.
Both the Army and Marine corps used the Higgins boat throughout the pacific theater, which would commonly be sailed by the US Navy and dropped off by Landing Ship, Tanks and other much larger landing craft which could not make it onto the beach. The goal of the Higgins was to unload its personnel quickly onto the beach and immediately turn around off the beach to grab more personnel and land them onto the beach. The Higgins boat can carry a single Willys Jeep along with some personnel.
A specialized hull allows it to swim in very shallow waters for landings, and withstand substantial collision damage. The higgins only has a small amount of steel armor on the driver, around the gunners, and above the infantry compartment.
