Descriptions

Sherpa:

"The Sherpa-class exploration sub enjoys popularity among the scientific, emergency response, and "HAZ-SAL" communities. Her extremely powerful engine array and high-tech systems enable even small crews to respond to any situation with unmatched speed, ease, and efficiency. Unfortunately reactor tech hasn't kept up with the Sherpa; her S26G nuclear generator strains hard and devours fuel to power the ship's systems. The drone attached to her belly is equipped to scout or accompany salvage teams."

SherpaDrone:

"A simple drone meant for ferrying cargo. Designed to be flooded and used as a drop-off point for goodies. Normally parented to a Sherpa-class exploration vessel."

Blurb

My take on a moderately-armed, state-of-the-art, light exploration vessel. The Sherpa-class explorer marks my second ship-building endeavor with lessons learned from my earlier sub, the Chasm I. The Sherpa is highly automated and smart, but she has weaknesses. She's cramped, her reactor struggles to keep up, and her guns don't cover all around. A good crew needs to take advantage of her strengths to avoid or defend against whatever Europa throws at them. Enjoy.

This sub was designed for a vanilla-esque campaign experience. All machine values have been hand-tweaked to be roughly in line with trends set by vanilla submarines and there are loose vents and panels scattered around for traitors. Expect something with a power level somewhere between an Orca and a Humpback, but with the speed of an Azimuth, and yet flavorfully different from any of the three.

Requires my Some Custom Icons mod which Steam will direct you toward when you hit Subscribe.

== Ship Technical Specifications ==

  • 3x Coilguns linked to a triple-belt unified feed system.

  • 2x Electrical Discharge coils. Fully automated. Will not activate if humans are within the detection bubble.

  • 1x Depth Charge Launcher

  • 2x Observational cameras

  • Double-layered reinforced frontal hull plate

  • 1x "SherpaDrone" parasite vesseldesigned to carry cargo and perform light reconnaisance. The drone's ballast and engine are slaved to the Sherpa's nav terminal while the drone is docked.

  • Maximum horizontal velocity of 26km/h (23km/h practical, tested with drone docked)

  • Maximum natural diving velocity of 15km/h (15km/h practical, tested with drone docked)

  • ** Maximum rising velocity of 19km/h** (19km/h practical, tested with drone docked)

  • 1200 kW/min backup battery system (45-ish seconds worth at full drain, 800x2 kW power supplied)

  • Secondary system cutoff capability. Saves about 1500 kW of load.

  • Emergency reactor flush lever located near the main access ladder on A-deck. Manually toggled.

  • Topside combination docking port/airlock

  • Medical and normal fabricators + deconstructor

  • Fire and Flood alarm system

  • Smart drainage system. Water is directed away from the reactor room wherever possible. Duct blocks on upper decks will not open if the rooms below are completely filled with water to prevent underside breaches from crippling the sub's drainage, with the exceptions of the rooms directly above the ballasts.

  • Intrusion detection system. Grid-set motion detectors activate shipwide sirens and alert the captain to the deck that a non-human is detected on-board the ship.* (*A little buggy. There's no true way to detect monsters, so I check for "Anything" + "Not Human". If a human and a monster share the same grid square, the system won't fire.)

  • Smart auto-opening and auto-closing doors and hatches (except for the ballasts). Auto-opening behavior is disabled if a fire or flood is detected on-board the ship. Auto-opening does not activate if a non-human is detected on either side of the door.* (*Also buggy for the same reason as above, but it works fine-ish unless monsters are permeating the ship)

  • Adequate storage for cargo of all kinds.

== Design and Gameplay Notes ==

  • Extra Medical/Security ID in the Captain's cabinet for whatever reason.

  • Less-than ideal gunnery coverage and capability. Weaknesses are fun.

  • Just enough storage for a handful of extra ammunition.

  • Hand-placed container inventories designed to be enough to start off a campaign without overloading teams with resources.

  • A strained reactor. Crews and captains are expected to be cognizant of their power draw and usage. Full engine capability is not possible unless the batteries are engaged and/or the secondary systems are shut off.

  • Captain starts with an SMG in his command room locker.

  • Security starts with an SMG, a riot shotgun, and a stun gun in the gunnery room safe, plus some stun batons and handcuffs in the cabinet.

  • Status and alarm lights on all small pumps and most doors/hatches.

  • Sophisticated command- and reactor-room readouts.

  • The arms vault in the Gunnery room is only accessible to ranking personnel (captain and security)

  • Toxin cabinet is only accessible to medical officers (medical)

  • Several loose vents and panels placed strategically for traitor games.

  • Yeah there's a clown suit.
