Husk Tweaks

Changes the Husk infection so that it will not block you from using in-game chat if your character has Husk genes spliced in.

Why do this?

In the vanilla game, the developers block you from speaking when you have the Husk infection in order to make it harder for you to get help, as you are unable to signal a medic for a dose of Calyxnide. However, if you have Husk genes spliced into your character, the Husk infection is no longer a danger to you. Thus, there is no longer any "balance" need to block you from calling for help, as you are no longer in danger.

How it Works

If you either have husk genes or are wearing the Church of Husk robes, the game will replace any normal husk infection you receive with the symbiotic version at strength 60 (to create a vulnerability period). The symbiotic strength is capped at 70 in order to prevent the healing buff from being applied, but otherwise still confers water breathing and pressure immunity.

Once you remove whatever was giving you transform immunity, the mod deletes the symbiotic infection and replaces it with regular husk infection, but only to strength 40, as to give a chance to actually cure yourself. If you receive husk symbiosis from some other source, a special flag is added to the character to prevent this removal from occurring when you remove your transform immunity.

Spoilers for endgame content:

There is a known bug involving the final stage of the Church of Husk's faction questline. Specifically, if you have the husk genes or transform immunity from the robes active when you trigger the ascension event, the flag that prevents the removal of husk symbiosis is not added. This means that if you remove husk genes or the robes at this point, your symbiosis goes away and you instead get the regular infection. This is not intended behavior and I am looking into a possible fix.

Compatibility

This mod overrides "huskaffliction", "husksymbiosis", "husktransformimmunity", and "husktransformimmunitytemporary". It also introduces three afflictions "huskgeneflag", "huskawaken", and "ascensionflag". As a result, it probably will not be compatible with medical overhauls such as Neurotrauma and Advanced Medicine (untested).

Known incompatibilities:

• Improved Husks by The Ninja Scout (Their mod basically does the same as mine when it comes to speech so you can just install that if you want the additional features)

Legacy Information

(Regarding compatibility for versions before 1.0 release) Regarding the requests for compatibility patches - due to the way the game is currently programmed, it is likely impossible for me to make the mod have universal compatibility with other mods. For those interested in the technical details:

• Barotrauma mutes the player using a field called "SpeechImpediment", which is set to 100 by the default Husk affliction every update tick.

• Once set to a value, it can not be changed to a lower value by a separate affliction in the same update tick.

• This behavior is hardcoded into a private update method, so it can not be overridden by XML definitions.

However, if you wish to create a compatibility patch for yourself, you will need to override every check for "huskinfection" and add an additional OR check for "huskinfection_nomute".
