A derivative of a design that was rejected, then resurrected by those needing firepower outside the coalition grasp.

In the initial stage of development of what would become known as the Typhon model of submarine numerous contractors were called upon to draft a proper warship for the coalition. Innumerable bidders all jockeyed for the profitable position of manufacturer of Europa's fighting ship of choice - as well as the generous royalties that would come with that status.

While the exact details of who the contract was rewarded to were lost to time, the result was the Typhon model that is well known. Though all submissions for the contest were to remain strictly under coalition lock and key, one of the finalist entries somehow got leaked. In those critical days when the Typhons first joined the coalition fleet, it was that same leaked design that lost the contract that gave those outside the coalition a vessel that could match a Typhon blow-for-blow.

Given the fractious nature of its manufacture, many of versions of this vessel exist under different names. Those manufactured today are known as the "Onondaga" class of submarine, named and patterned after the most infamous pirate ship of its make. Though not as common as they once were, falling by the wayside as the far more mighty Typhon 2 is adopted by almost every faction, the "Onondaga" submarine still makes for a formidable ship that any crew would do well to consider.
