Client-side mod (LuaCs)

Full gamepad support for Barotrauma: a complete controller layout, in-game options menu, an inventory item wheel, motion (gyro) controls and vibration. Works on Windows, and on Linux / Steam Deck.

Requirements

• LuaCs For Barotrauma must be enabled (client-side mod).

• Any Xbox-compatible gamepad works out of the box on Windows.

• DualShock / DualSense / Switch Joy-Con / Switch Pro work through Steam Input (see the Steam Input section below) or DS4Windows.

Enable / Disable

Keyboard

• Alt+J - enable / disable Gamepad Input.

Gamepad

• LB+RB+DPadDown+A (hold all four) - enable / disable Gamepad Input.

Options menu

Open the mod's options window in-game (rebind buttons, cursor speed, gyro, vibration, item wheel and more):

• F8 on the keyboard,

• hold Start for ~0.6 seconds,

• or use the "Gamepad Input" button in the pause menu.

The status line in the window shows the connected device, battery, gyro availability and Steam Input state - handy for troubleshooting.

Gamepad

• A - Select / Shoot

• B - Use / Back

• X - Health

• Y - Grab

• Start - Menu (hold to open mod options)

• Back - Info tab

• DPad Up - Toggle cursor range (cursor lock)

• DPad Down - Crouch

• DPad Right - Crew orders

• DPad Left - Ragdoll

• RB - Next item (hold to open the item wheel)

• LB - Previous item (hold to open the item wheel)

• LT - Aim

• RT - Shoot

• Right stick button - Crew command manager

• Left stick button - Run

Sticks

• In game: left stick moves your character, right stick moves the cursor.

• In menus it swaps automatically: left stick moves the cursor, right stick navigates.

Inventory item wheel

Hold RB or LB to open a radial wheel of your 10 inventory slots, point at a slot with the left stick and release the bumper to equip the item. Press B (Use) to cancel.

Motion controls (gyro)

• Gyro moves the cursor - enable it and set sensitivity in the mod options.

• Supported on Steam Deck, DualShock 4 / DualSense and Switch Joy-Con / Pro Controller (through Steam Input, see below).

• "Gyro source" option: Auto (direct sensor first, then Steam Input), SDL direct, or Steam Input only.

Vibration

Vibration on damage and low health (XInput, Steam haptics on Joy-Con / DualShock / Steam Deck).

Steam Input - important

Barotrauma is a "keyboard & mouse" game for Steam, so by default Steam Input emulates WASD and the gamepad never reaches the mod. Pick one:

• Recommended: In Steam -> Barotrauma -> Controller layout -> "Change layout" -> set the Gamepad template. The game and the mod both see the virtual gamepad.

• Or disable Steam Input for Barotrauma (right click -> Properties -> Controller -> Disable Steam Input) and use the gamepad directly (Xbox-like pads on Windows).

Installing client-side Lua

• Open hosting menu

• Select LuaForBarotrauma in ServerExecutable and host a server

• While hosting, open the console window (most commonly 'F3')

• Type in or copy, then execute the console command:

install_cl_lua

• Restart the game
