BetterCharacters (Beta)

A client side texture replacement mod that overhauls head and body for a more realistic appearance. Spiritual successor to BetterCharacterHeads (I am unrelated to the original mod author).

Installation

Do not try to use the in-game menu to install this mod!

1. Backup your SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Barotrauma\Content\Characters\Human folder
2. Locate the mod folder either in SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\602960 or SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Barotrauma\LocalMods
3. Copy the BetterCharacter/Content folder into SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Barotrauma
4. Click yes to replace all files
5. Restart game
6. Delete the BetterCharacters folder from your mod directory

Early Beta

Currently, only the female body sprite and 4 heads have been completed. However, the replacement of all character sprites and possibly some hair accessories is planned.

** Will I be able to play on vanilla servers with this mod? ** Yes. This mod only replaces local sprite files and is purely cosmetic.

** I overwrote my local files without backing up, how do I reset them? **

1. Delete the overwritten files.
2. Go to your steam library. Right click Barotrauma > properties > verify file integrity.

** Why are the joints sometimes janky? ** The new sprites still use the vanilla ragdoll and animations, so it may not fit together perfectly especially when the character is moving quickly. If you would like to fit a custom ragdoll to the sprites and upload it as an actual mod, feel free to do so.

** How was this mod made? ** The characters were custom 3D models rendered in CC4 and edited onto the vanilla sprite sheet using Gimp.
